Jack hurriedly stepped forward, pulled out a tissue, and handed it over. "Sir, is the milk too hot?"
Quinn Avery was eating her eggs in small bites. Miles York felt as if the woman from his dream was gently pressing her lips against his Adam's apple.
His throat bobbed sharply. He hastily took a sip of milk, trying to cool the sudden heat rising in his body.
"Is the car ready?"
"Sir, Tristan Vance has it ready. Will you and your wife be taking separate cars, or will you ride together?"
Miles looked up at him, his expression turning frosty. "Do you really need to ask me that?"
Jack lowered his head and muttered, "Then we'll stick to the usual arrangement. You and Quinn will take separate cars."
Miles's brow furrowed, but he didn't say another word.
Jack felt like he had done something wrong again.
Why did his boss look so displeased?
Had he misunderstood again?
Did the boss want to ride separately or together?
Why couldn't he just say it plainly? It was so hard to guess.
As usual, Quinn got into the Pullman, while Miles sat in the Rolls-Royce Phantom.
Tristan was about to start the engine when Miles's sudden, chilling voice rang out.
"Tell that woman to come over and ride with me."
Tristan's eyelid twitched. What was happening?
His boss was actually willing to share a car back to the York Ancestral Manor with his wife?
"What are you staring at?"
Tristan quickly replied, "Sir, I'll go get her right now."
Quinn was already settled in the Pullman, reading a book while waiting for the driver, Yang, to start the car. Suddenly, Tristan tapped lightly on her window.
"Quinn, Mr. York says you're riding in the same car back to the Manor today."
Quinn was reluctant. "He takes his car, and I take mine."
She needed to make the most of her time reading The Unmarked Path. She had a few chapters to translate tonight.
