She Walked Away With His Twins While He Begged the Ground She Walked On novel Chapter 185

"The only reason I tolerated it before was because..."

The words caught in her throat. Saying it out loud would only make her feel cheaper.

"Now, I'm done holding back. If your mother and sister want to keep belittling and insulting me, I'm sorry, but I won't just stand there and take it anymore."

Miles didn't seem to notice the profound sadness radiating from her. His brow furrowed tightly, the air around him dropping to a freezing temperature.

"Quinn, so you feel like you've been deeply wronged all these years, is that it?"

Looking at his dark, unyielding expression, Quinn felt a sharp constriction in her chest, a silent wave of grief washing over her completely.

Wasn't I wronged?

Sienna hurried over, holding a tube of ointment. "Quinn, your face is swelling up. I found some ointment. Let me help you put it on."

Quinn turned her head slightly, blinking away the moisture gathering in her eyes. "Thank you. I'll do it myself."

Miles saw the angry red welt swelling on half of her face.

He swallowed his mounting frustration and turned on his heel, walking away.

...

The meal ended on a predictably sour note. Quinn exchanged a few words with Grandma Evelyn before preparing to leave.

Evelyn gently patted her hand. "Quinn, I'm so sorry you had to endure that. Macy's mother and I can't control her temper. Only Miles and her father can rein her in. I'll make sure her father talks some sense into her."

Quinn lowered her gaze. "Thank you, Grandma Evelyn. Please rest well. I'll be going now."

"Oh, this child..."

Evelyn wanted to keep her around to talk some more, but considering her own granddaughter had slapped her, she didn't feel she had the right to insist.

Instead, she instructed Ingrid to go kick her grandson out too, telling them to head home together.

She also told the old butler to send extra gifts to the nursing home for Martha.

"Grandma Evelyn, Quinn will remember your kindness."
