Ethan noticed her excitement and let out a soft laugh.
"Quinn, you have to trust Director Vance's judgment. He runs Blackwood Press; if he says you're ready, you're ready."
Director Vance smiled warmly. "Go home and focus on the translation. I'll schedule time for proofreading and submit it before the deadline."
Warmth spread through Quinn's chest. Restraining her overflowing excitement, she replied politely.
"Thank you so much, Director Vance. I'll get it done as fast as I can."
"You're very welcome."
The trees lining the boulevard rustled in the breeze, with sunlight filtering through the leaves and dappling the pavement.
Quinn and Ethan walked out of Blackwood Press side by side.
As they strolled at a leisurely pace, the sunlight bathed them in a tranquil, almost picture-perfect glow.
If only she could cast aside the heavy burdens weighing on her mind and relax, the moment would be utterly flawless.
Thinking about her highly presumptuous request, Quinn had no idea how to broach the topic.
She debated internally for several minutes, the words dying on her lips each time. Her fingers unconsciously twisted the hem of her dress.
The gentle voice of the man beside her suddenly broke the tense silence.
"Quinn, are you in some kind of trouble?"
Ethan seemed to know her all too well. Just by noticing her nervous fidgeting, he could guess something was bothering her.
"Ethan, how did you know?"
She hadn't even said a word yet, and he had already figured it out?
"You used to do that. Twisting your fingers together."
"Used to?"
Quinn paused, assuming she must have displayed the habit when they were abroad.
She tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, trying to hide her sudden awkwardness.
A soft flush crept onto his handsome face, spreading all the way to the tips of his ears.
He froze in place, his gaze locked on her. The deeply buried affections in his heart ignited instantly, throwing his breathing into chaos.
Fortunately, his naturally composed and rational demeanor kept him from entirely losing his composure.
His Adam's apple bobbed involuntarily, his deep eyes shimmering with delight as he temporarily forgot how to speak.
Misinterpreting his silence as a refusal, Quinn rushed to explain.
"It's just temporary! I... I know you probably don't want to do it, but I don't have anyone else to ask."
"Tem... temporary?"
The explosive joy and burning anticipation rushing through his veins were immediately extinguished, as if he'd been drenched in ice water.
"Yes, Ethan. I know this puts you in a terrible position. You have such a spotless reputation, and getting involved with someone like me might tarnish it."
Ethan's elation instantly soured into a bitter ache. His chest tightened with disappointment as his cheek twitched, leaving him caught between laughter and tears.

Why only one episode uploading for the last 2 days?...
I would have accepted the jerk husband ending up with the heroine if he’s only powerful, intelligent but he’s so powerless and so stupid....
Can you make Ethan be the endgame? That Miles is a total jerk....
