Her soft, inviting gaze practically glued itself to his body. Miles's expression shifted slightly, and he frowned, turning his body away. The crushing exhaustion practically begged him to just take a shower and sleep for the night.
"Jade, just leave it on the table. I'll drink it later."
He strode straight into the walk-in closet to grab his bathrobe, entirely ignoring the bowl she was offering.
Irritation spiked through Jade. She had gone out of her way to slip into this sheer nightgown.
She brought him soup with the utmost gentleness, and he wouldn't even spare her a glance, let alone offer a word of affection?
But remembering his typical emotional density and complete lack of initiative, she pushed her anger down.
"Miles, I'll just leave it here for you."
Seeing her set down the bowl but stay rooted to the spot, Miles's frown deepened. "Jade, you should get to bed early. I'm going to take a shower and turn in myself."
Her smile instantly stiffened. Was he actually kicking her out?
She had planned to linger, snoop around his room, maybe pry a little. Instead, a well-timed mist surfaced in her eyes.
Her voice was painfully fragile. "Miles, do you resent being around me?"
"Jade, why on earth would I resent you?"
He grabbed his suit jacket and pulled it tightly around her bare shoulders. "Why are you wearing so little? What if you catch a cold?"
Jade: "..." She poured every ounce of seductive tension she had into wearing something breathtakingly sheer, and all he cared about was whether she’d catch pneumonia?
Could he literally not see every stunning curve she was serving on a platter?
Was he physically incapable of picking up the scent of her burning invitation?
"Miles..."
Miles cut off her breathless sigh. "How is Leo holding up? Get back there to watch him. I'll stop by to check on him when I'm out of the shower."
Promising his arrival soon, Jade tugged the jacket around herself, forcing a sugary sweet smile.
"Miles, Leo had a long nap today, so he's still up playing with his toys. You will come hang out with him, right?"
Exhaustion weighed down his voice. "Once I shower, I'll go see him."
