Leo scratched his head and looked at his mother. "Is that true?"
Disappointment swirled in Jade's eyes, leaving a hollow ache in her chest. Was Miles really that utterly repulsed by the idea of sharing a bed with her?
She had desperately hoped for something intimate to spark between them tonight, but his perpetual monastic, desire-free aura made it impossible to play any more of her little tricks.
Forced to settle for her backup plan, she figured using her son to pitch the whole 'family of three sharing a bed' angle would break his defenses. Surely he wouldn't turn that down, right?
Who could have expected him to throw out an excuse like that?
Did he have zero concept of how devastatingly painful that rejection was for her to hear?
Completely oblivious to the internal meltdown happening right next to him, Miles spoke to Leo. "Let's go. I'll sleep with you tonight."
Overjoyed that his Daddy actually loved him, Leo practically vibrated with excitement.
He waved at Jade happily. "Night, Mommy! I'm sleeping with Daddy tonight."
Scooping Leo into his arms, utterly blind to Jade's smoldering frustration, Miles offered, "Jade, head to bed early. I'll have Gail bring that headache medicine up. You'll feel better once you take it."
Dropping her eyelids to mask her boiling resentment, Jade forced a nod.
...
Fairview Apartments.
Ethan carried Caleb while Quinn held Luna as they returned to Apartment 802. "Quinn, starting tomorrow, the siblings can take the room next door. The kids' beds will be delivered by morning."
"Ethan, I don't know about this. They're going to totally intrude on your space."
"Not at all. I travel for business roughly twenty days a month, so my actual time with them is incredibly limited. If I can't even dedicate my free days to being with them, they're going to catch onto the fact that I'm a fake Daddy."
The two little geniuses were far too sharp. Honestly, he wasn't entirely convinced he and Quinn could keep the charade going.
Throwing both hands up in absolute agreement with Ethan, Yara leaned in to whisper some advice.
"Quinn, Ethan's spot on. You practically live at Regency Bay now. If they don't have their mom around, and their Daddy acts distant too, those poor kids are going to be miserable."
