"Miles, have you lost your mind? Wayne has already recovered my data. The files are perfectly intact. Yet you’re claiming he’s incompetent and threatening to demote him? What did he ever do to you?"
Miles leaned back in his chair, his gaze lifting lazily. "Any professional could have done it in thirty minutes. It took him nearly three hours. If that isn't incompetence, what is?"
Wayne West walked over with his lunch tray. Hearing the accusation, the color drained from his face.
"Mr. York, Ms. Avery's laptop was severely damaged. It’s an older model, so the system was struggling to boot up. I... I really wasn't stalling."
Desperate, he shot a pleading look at Hunter. "Mr. Hunter..."
He hoped the assistant would vouch for him. Hunter looked torn, stealing a quick, nervous glance at Quinn.
Quinn’s eyes flared with anger. "Miles, if you have a problem with me, leave everyone else out of it!"
"Heh..."
Miles let out a cold scoff. He did have a problem with her, but he was strictly sticking to the facts.
Wayne clearly harbored inappropriate thoughts about her, and this woman was exactly the type to encourage it.
The two of them had hit it off perfectly, right under his nose.
He didn't even know why he was so furious. Perhaps it was because she still carried the legal title of his wife, and that alone was enough to make his blood boil!
"Miles, what exactly do you want?"
Miles’s thin lips parted. "Delete her number."
Quinn froze. "What?"
Before she could even process what number he meant, Hunter caught on.
He turned to the manager with a heavy frown. "Wayne, did you... just add Ms. Avery's contact info?"
Realization slapped Wayne in the face. He quickly pulled up Quinn’s profile on his phone and deleted her.
Handing the screen over with a trembling hand, he stammered, "Mr. York, I've already deleted Ms. Avery's contact."
"Ms. Avery, I am so sorry!"
