She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 1022

"Why me?" Swain's voice shook with barely contained devastation. "Out of everyone, why me?!"

Molly just sobbed, her words entirely incoherent.

She reached out to grab his hand, but he violently shoved her away. She stumbled backward, crashing into the armrest of the sofa.

Martha was trembling so hard she could barely stand. She pointed a shaking finger at Molly. "Swain, this marriage is over! We are getting this annulled immediately! Tomorrow! No, today!"

"Absolutely!" Carl slammed his newspaper down onto the table, covering the corner of one of the scandalous photos. "We cannot afford this kind of humiliation! If our friends and family find out, we'll be laughingstocks!"

"Divorce her!" Martha repeated frantically, as if trying to convince herself. "Before anyone else finds out, we have to file the paperwork. This woman needs to disappear from our lives!"

Molly's sobbing abruptly stopped.

She slowly lifted her head. Her carefully applied makeup was ruined, dark streaks of mascara running down her face, making her look utterly unhinged.

"I'm not signing any divorce papers. Keep dreaming."

Martha froze. "What did you just say? How dare you!"

"I said, I'm not getting a divorce." Molly wiped her face, smearing the dark makeup across her cheeks. She stared at Martha, her previous panic completely replaced by a toxic, reckless defiance.

"We signed the marriage license. We are legally married. You think you can just kick me out? It's not that easy."

"You manipulative bitch! This is marriage fraud! You just wanted a sucker to foot your bills!" Martha lunged forward to attack her, but Swain caught her arm.

"Mom, calm down!" Swain shouted, his temples throbbing in agony.

"How can I be calm?! My son married a whore!" Martha sobbed hysterically. "I raised you to be successful, to bring home a good wife! And look what you did! Look at what you married!"

"Try me." Molly's eyes were ice cold, the last of her perfectly curated facade completely gone. "I have the marriage license. Legally, I'm his wife. Divorce? Not without my signature."

She bent down, casually picking up the scattered photos, dusting them off before sliding them back into her designer purse.

Miranda, who had been leaning against the doorway watching the chaos unfold, smirked.

She had only wanted to ruin Molly's pristine reputation, but the Carters' internal meltdown was a spectacular bonus.

"Well, since everything is out in the open, I'll be going." Miranda opened the door and glanced over her shoulder. "Have a nice life, Molly. You're going to need it."

She turned to leave.

Swain snapped out of his daze, lunging forward to grab Miranda's arm. "Wait!"
