A moment's thought was all it took for Loyce to realize Sybil was after her sheet music. She checked her drawer and saw that the pages had indeed been disturbed. She wasn't sure how Sybil had learned about the piece she’d composed on the fly, but the music was still incomplete. Was the woman looking for the second half?
Loyce stared at the sheet music for a long while. To test her theory, an idea began to form. She took out a pen and started to complete the composition.
She wrote two versions. One was the product of her true creative inspiration. The other was a carefully laid trap for Sybil. If Sybil truly intended to steal her work for her own gain, she would pay a steep price for her actions.
After tidying up, Loyce logged onto the dark web and was immediately greeted by an urgent message from Hugo.
[Boss, one of our shipments was hijacked on the high seas. The cargo is missing, and our team suffered heavy casualties!]
Loyce's expression darkened instantly. She called him back. "I personally planned that route. It should have been secure. Do we have a traitor?"
Hugo considered it, then dismissed the idea. "All our people are controlled by chips. Any sign of dissent would cause them to self-destruct, and nothing like that has happened. Besides, the whole hijacking was bizarre and makes no sense."
"How so?" Loyce asked.
"It’s like they didn't know they were stealing highly destructive weapons," Hugo explained, sounding perplexed. "During the firefight, they blew up half of the cargo, which was worth billions."
"Unlikely," Loyce said. "For the next couple of days, give the men some rest and a bonus, then have them manufacture another batch to ship out. I'll handle the investigation into this personally."
"Got it, Boss. Oh, by the way, that message from the president of the World Piano Association got forwarded to me. He wants to invite you to be a judge at the Starlight Music Gala. Those old timers are dying to see the real Mr. X."
Loyce chuckled softly. "They don't want to see me. They want me to complete that fragmented ancient musical score I acquired. They're hoping for a free performance. Tell them I'm busy."
"Will do," Hugo replied.
