Zachary asked, “So what do we do now?”
“Two nobodies with no power and no connections want to steal business from us? They’ve got a death wish.” Purity’s voice turned vicious. “Send people to trash that little pharmacy. Give Marcella a warning. Then send her an invitation. If she’s so brave, let her stop hiding and go treat Lucian Shapiro herself.”
Zachary hesitated. “But the Shapiro family only sent one invitation...”
Purity shot him a look. “Who said it has to be real? I want her humiliated.”
Zachary’s grin turned ugly. “Got it.”
Just as they finished, Sapphire Walsh rushed in, panic all over her face. “Grandma, something’s wrong!”
Purity frowned. “You’re supposed to be the ‘genius doctor.’ Why are you so frantic? Where’s your composure?”
Sapphire ran up, voice shaking. “Grandma! CoreWell Pharmacy posted that they’re cutting all ties with our family. Anyone friendly with us is an enemy of CoreWell Pharmacy and SaintHealer! I tried to buy meds from CoreWell just now, but they revoked my access at the door. What do we do?!”
The Walsh family’s success depended on CoreWell’s drugs and medical tech. Outsiders had only flattered the Walsh family because CoreWell backed them. Now that CoreWell had publicly declared them enemies, the fallout would be catastrophic.
Purity’s face drained. Her legs gave out and she slid off her chair, all her “composure” gone in an instant. “How could this happen?! How did we offend SaintHealer? I’ve practically worshiped them. How can they blacklist the Walsh family?!”
“It has to be… it has to be because CoreWell found out what we’ve been doing,” Sapphire said, frantic. “What now, Grandma? I don’t want my name ruined!”
Zachary helped Purity up. She forced herself to steady her voice. “The eldest heir of the Lonsdale family is still in our hospital, preparing for surgery. They’re in Yarmoria. They won’t be watching the dark web. We act like nothing happened. We have to use this chance to secure the Lonsdales and protect ourselves, understand?”
Another student snorted. “Please. Anyone with eyes wouldn’t choose that idiot.”
Then someone noticed Loyce standing in the crowd. A few faces turned toward her with open malice.
Loyce lifted an eyebrow. She’d almost forgotten she still had a bargain-bin fiancé—Keegan Vaughn.
Back before Quiana returned to the Sampson family, Keegan had been at the Sampson house every other day, showering Loyce with gifts in every possible way. Under Hamilton’s insistence, the engagement between the two families had been arranged smoothly enough.
But Loyce had never felt even a flicker for Keegan. The man’s character was rotten, his charm fake, and as for his looks… he didn’t even measure up to a tenth of Lucian.
She couldn’t be bothered with the pair and turned to leave. But Quiana’s eyes were sharp. She spotted Loyce immediately and called out, “Loyce!”
