Gordon was in Forrest’s hospital room now. Hearing that, Forrest smoothly added, “I heard the Sampsons were close with the Vaughns. Once I found out about my sister’s engagement, I let him take the two-billion-dollar project.”

Over the phone, Morris’s tone turned cold. “The Vaughns don’t appreciate it. They’re canceling the engagement, calling Loyce useless.”

The moment Gordon heard what she’d been through, guilt and pain hit him at once. “What right do they have? How dare they look down on my granddaughter! He’s not fit to hold her coat.”

Forrest’s face darkened. “I didn’t expect that.”

Morris said heavily, “I met her. She’s not useless. She’s incredible.”

“We’re not letting them bully her,” Forrest said, serious. “Then that partnership doesn’t need to go to the Vaughns.”

Soon, it was the day of the Sampsons’ banquet. To make Quiana’s “return” official, they even invited reporters. The family looked warm and united—except the oldest brother, Hamilton, wasn’t there.

Quiana said quietly, “If Hamilton were here… this would be perfect.”

Adele stroked Quiana’s head. “I never imagined we’d raise Loyce all these years and end up raising someone who nearly got her brother killed.”

Marshall Sampson said coldly, “That kind of blood shows. We’re already being generous by not pressing charges.”

Byron watched his parents take Quiana’s side so completely. His lips moved, but in the end he didn’t argue.

Then she went straight up to her room.

Adele was furious. “Look at what she’s wearing! Today is Quiana’s official day as a Sampson! She has no manners at all!”

Lester’s eyes were fixed on the motorcycle outside. He frowned. “Loyce is getting more outrageous by the day. Who knows what shady way she used to get money.”

Byron frowned and cut him off. “Lester, don’t run your mouth here.”

Lester didn’t back down. “I’m not. You don’t know bikes like I do. That one out front is a Moonshadow—limited edition. Worth ten million. She’s out of the Sampson family now, so where’d she get that kind of money?”
