"That's terrifying! How can anyone be so morally bankrupt!"
They spoke with such conviction, their faces twisted in "righteous indignation," as if they had witnessed Loyce's "crimes" with their own eyes.
The boy with glasses was especially worked up, spit flying from his lips as he ranted.
A curly-haired girl intentionally emphasized, "If Cyrilla hadn't noticed something was wrong and shouted to draw the bear away, Marnie might have... died! Loyce, the teacher for the Ace Class, is totally corrupt. She's practically a murderer!"
Their words sounded forceful, but the guilt they couldn't quite hide flickered in their youthful eyes.
With the lie "corroborated" by so many, Marnie's parents trembled with rage. Francis even tried to lunge at Loyce, only to be held back by the bodyguards.
"The proof is right here! We have witnesses! What else do you have to say for yourself?!" Mabel pointed a shaking finger right at Loyce's face, absolutely hysterical. "You bitch! You deserved to get attacked by that bear! Too bad it didn't finish the job! You're going to pay for my daughter's leg!"
Her vicious curses echoed down the hospital corridor.
Despite the overwhelming accusations, slander, and venomous curses, Loyce remained seated in her wheelchair, as unaffected as an isolated island untouched by the storm. Her expression didn't shift in the slightest. Only her eyes—sharp as ice and breathtakingly piercing—gave anything away.
She didn't look at the screaming parents, nor did she spare a glance at Cyrilla's exaggerated performance. Instead, her gaze swept methodically over the students who had just lied through their teeth.
"Why are you giving false testimonies?" Loyce's voice wasn't loud, but it carried a strange, penetrating weight that cut through the noise, ringing clearly in everyone's ears. "Are you really so sure that framing me will secure your parents a spot in the Futura-Silicon commercial district? Is that it? You think this makes you the heroes of your families?"
The group of students collectively flinched. Their eyes darted away instinctively, though their mouths remained stubbornly defiant. "What are you talking about?! We're just telling the truth for Marnie! What does that have to do with some Futura-Silicon project? Stop changing the subject!"
Loyce shifted her gaze to Marnie. "I'll ask you one last time. Was it Cyrilla who saved your life, and not me?"
Loyce's penetrating stare made Marnie's lips tremble.
"Loyce." Cyrilla's voice dripped with fake sympathy and condescension. "I know you're scared of the consequences, but lying and deflecting won't help you now. Everyone knows the Shapiro family is in charge of Futura-Silicon. I also know Lucian is a man of integrity. He has a military background; he would never cover up for someone who did something wrong. Besides, Marnie and all these students have testified against you. The evidence is irrefutable. What you should be doing right now is apologizing, trying to earn Marnie and her family's forgiveness, instead of playing pretend as some 'project manager.' It only makes you look... pathetic."
Cyrilla felt confident. Even if Lucian favored Loyce, Cyrilla had Zeke Shapiro—a respected veteran—backing her up. Add to that the fact that she was credited with a "lifesaving favor," and getting a few commercial leases for her classmates' families would be a walk in the park.
After their initial panic, the students who lied were emboldened by the parents' and the Windsors' outrage.
The boy with glasses jutted out his chin and yelled, "Yeah! Don't think you can scare us with some random file! Futura-Silicon is a massive Shapiro family project. What does it have to do with you? You might have a little money, but you're nothing compared to the real elite families!"
The curly-haired girl agreed. "Exactly! Trying to intimidate us with fake status? Take a look in the mirror! We're telling the truth!"
Mabel sneered, "Are you losing your mind, you bitch? Deluding yourself into thinking you run the project?"
