Loyce examined his wife. Her name was Lillian, a former Oscar-winning actress. Years of overwork had taken a serious toll on her health, and this pregnancy was the hard-won result of multiple rounds of IVF.
Now nearly seven months along, the fetus had a nuchal cord and showed signs of severe growth restriction. The mother was also allergic to several medications and suffered from epilepsy, making standard doctors too terrified to intervene.
Loyce did a brief check and deemed it manageable. She simply wrote a prescription and handed it to Lillian. "The medication on this list is only available at CoreWell Pharmacy. Get it filled once a week and take it consistently. Stop one month before your due date and come back to me to adjust the dosage."
Lillian touched her stomach. "Will my baby be born safely this way?"
"I will manually reposition the baby for you. It will survive the birth, but I'm afraid you might not survive the delivery. You have too many underlying health issues, and your body isn't absorbing nutrients. Whatever little you do absorb goes straight to the baby. If you don't find a way to get healthier, both of you will die."
Loyce continued, "Regular supplements won't work on you. You can only take the medicine I prescribed, paired with a diet from your nutritionist."
Lillian asked, "How much will these medications cost?"
Loyce replied coolly, "One million a week."
"As long as the baby is delivered safely, I don't care how much it costs!" the CEO of Jasyn Media said at once, handing Loyce an extra bank card. "It is an absolute stroke of luck to run into you today. This is my consultation fee. There's five million in here. If it's not enough, I'll get more."
Loyce didn't take the card. She pushed it back and simply said, "Once the child is born safely, we'll settle the bill."
Lillian thanked her profusely. "If my baby is safe, I owe you a massive favor!"
After sending off the Jasyn CEO and his wife, Loyce still had to deal with the circle of medical titans around her. She practically lectured them for the entire morning until her voice grew tired, finally letting the crowd disperse.
In the end, only Heath was left in the consultation room.
Heath had originally wanted to chat with Loyce about her new technology, but a transatlantic phone call interrupted him. A few short sentences were all it took for the elderly doctor to furrow his brows.
"Hallie, I can't help you with this. Using my old connections to get you into the Royal Art Academy was already a stretch. If you can't pass the final evaluations, then don't bother studying there. Just come back and get a regular job."
Loyce was prepping for Holt's morning surgery when she received a message from her eldest brother.
The bidding for the commercial storefronts at 'Futura-Silicon' was today. He couldn't attend and wanted her to step in as his proxy at the venue to finalize the bidding process.
Loyce called him back. "Did the bidding get moved up?"
Forrest Lonsdale: "Yes, the entire schedule was pushed forward. Can you help me out and attend, Loyce? Consider it good experience. How about it?"
Since he put it that way, Loyce obviously wouldn't refuse. "I understand. I'll be there on time."
Forrest chuckled. "Good girl. Don't worry, the entire process will be handled by specialists. There won't be any media at the venue, it's strictly an internal bidding event. Just attend as the daughter of the Lonsdale family."
Loyce hummed in agreement, then asked, "Are you still dealing with the metal mines? Is it proving difficult?"
