She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 450

The moment the words left her mouth, Loyce clearly felt the broad chest pressed against her suddenly tense up, the arm wrapped around her tightening its muscles in an instant.

Every movement and breath from the man behind her halted.

Loyce could even clearly feel his Adam's apple bobbing with difficulty.

Immediately after, he pulled back a few inches, trying to create a pathetic amount of space on that narrow cot.

"Don't move! Loyce, don't move..."

Lucian's voice suddenly became extremely hoarse, even carrying a trace of near-frantic, desperately restrained warning squeezed through his gritted teeth.

Loyce's sleepiness instantly vanished by half due to his sudden reaction and abnormal tone.

She wasn't an innocent little girl who knew nothing of the world. She had just been groggy with sleep, but now, awakened by his unusual reaction, she understood.

A dead silence spread through the small tent, with only the low hum of the heater and the sound of their suddenly erratic heartbeats amplifying endlessly.

She could feel the heavy rise and fall of his chest, as well as those muscle lines still tense as stone.

After what felt like a century, his deep, enduring explanation finally came from above her head. "That just means I'm a man with a normal biological response, but I'm not going to do anything with you in this situation. Ignore my physical reaction and get some proper sleep."

Lucian tactfully left a gap between their bodies to let his physical response subside.

Loyce believed he wasn't lying. She closed her eyes and gave a soft hum of acknowledgment.

A while later, her breathing grew even. Enveloped by the man's heat, she became perfectly warm, her previously pale face now dusted with a faint, healthy pink.

She was sleeping comfortably, but the Lucian behind her was in a state of simultaneous bliss and agony.

He rested his head lightly against the top of her hair and let out a soft sigh.

If this happened a few more times, he was definitely going to die of frustration.

The next morning.

Loyce stepped forward quickly, her eyes locking onto the primary display.

The screen was broadcasting real-time, first-person footage. The mountain range, ravaged by mudslides and torrential rain, was covered in snapped trees and white snow. The thick fog on the screen reduced visibility to less than fifteen feet. All she could see were a few figures using specialized gear to painstakingly scale the extreme terrain.

The figure leading the pack, moving with precise and lethal efficiency, was instantly recognizable to Loyce as Lucian, even buried in a heavy hazmat suit.

He had actually gone in by himself?!

An indescribable surge of anger rushed straight to her head. Loyce clenched her fists, her gaze turning utterly dark.

"When did he go in? Why did he hide this from me?" Loyce's voice was as cold as the ice in the mountains, instantly shattering the heavy atmosphere in the tent.

Seeing her freezing expression, the crew remembered Lucian's instructions before he left. Everyone had expected Loyce's reaction to be exactly like this.

A meteorologist explained, "Right at daybreak. He seized the window when the snowfall weakened and moved out. The General is leading the most elite mountain assault squad; they are highly experienced..."

"So, you all just kept me in the dark? He went to risk his life first because he thought I wasn't capable enough and would hold him back?" Loyce's voice trembled with suppressed rage.
