She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 460

"It's not an open window right now! The environment inside the vein is unimaginably harsh. How... how could a girl dare to go in there alone?!" A geologist who had followed them looked frantic. "It's been hit by continuous heavy rain. There are avalanches and cave-ins everywhere. Oh god."

Lucian's face was bone-chillingly cold. In his mind flashed the memory of Loyce's cool fingers bandaging him last night, and her soft but firm 'I would care'.

So all that sudden tenderness was just to lower his guard so she could walk this dead-end path alone.

Did she calculate that if she told him the truth, he would definitely risk his life for her again?

"Assemble all experts immediately!" Lucian's voice was freezing, unquestionable. "I'm going into the mountains."

"You're crazy! All for a woman?!" Zeke, supported by his son, fiercely blocked Lucian's path. His aged voice was hoarse with rage. "You crawling back from the gates of hell once was God showing mercy! Do you think you'll be this lucky every time? Are you determined to throw your life away in that cursed vein?!"

Lucian's eyes were calm, his tone low. "Dying here, dying under artillery fire, or dying at the end of an assassin's barrel—what's the difference to me?"

Zeke was furious. "I poured all my resources into grooming you, supporting you, not for my heir to throw his life away for a woman!"

He whipped his head around, barking an order at the soldiers behind him: "Guards! Keep an eye on him! No one is allowed to let him leave the camp without my orders!"

"Who dares!" Lucian barked coldly, his sharp gaze sweeping the crowd like a blade.

The air instantly solidified. The soldiers looked at each other, but not a single one stepped forward to execute the old general's orders.

Over the years Lucian had commanded the Shapiro family, his illustrious military achievements and iron-fisted methods had long been ingrained in people's hearts. True authority had quietly shifted long ago.

Zeke's chest heaved violently. Clearly realizing his authority was gone, his fury served no purpose. "You dare disobey me?! Do you have any respect for me as your grandfather!"

"It's exactly because I do that I've obeyed you for the past few decades," Lucian said expressionlessly, though a faint, barely detectable exhaustion laced his voice. "Out of everything you expected of me, which one have I not achieved? Why is it that when it comes to something I truly want to do, I have to be stopped?"

"Because you are the heir of the Shapiro family!" Zeke roared, his voice echoing through the tent. "You carry the future of the entire family on your shoulders! You have no right to be reckless, no right to talk about romance! Listen to me clearly!"

Lucian said evenly, "If I had the choice, I'd willingly give it all up."
