She gripped his arms. Any gunshot wound or other injury was nothing compared to this.
A soft gasp escaped her lips, and Lucian captured it with a kiss. "I'm not exactly experienced with this," he murmured against her mouth. "But I catch on fast. Just give me a minute."
He had pitifully little experience in this department, and the woman beneath him was too perfect. He held her tight, his heart racing faster than it ever had in his life.
Loyce was quickly overcome by an unprecedented sensation. She clung to him, burying her face in the crook of his neck, feeling his strong heartbeat and burning body heat.
But before she could fully process it, he pulled back, gasping for air.
Loyce stared blankly for a second.

Lucian hovered over her, his body stiff, breathing heavily. A bead of sweat rolled down his temple and landed on Loyce's collarbone, searingly hot.

Loyce blinked, recovering from her initial shock.
She looked at the man's tense jawline and flushed ears, and the subtle amusement in her heart was instantly replaced by a fierce wave of tenderness and affection.
"We don't need to take it slowly," he said, his voice dropping an octave, his eyes darkening with a surging storm.
Just looking at her perfection was enough to instantly reignite his desire.
He took a deep breath, shifted his position, and locked his arms firmly around her waist, holding her so tightly it was as if he wanted to embed her into his own body.
"That was just an accident," he breathed against her lips, his breath scorching hot, laced with a desperate determination to redeem his pride. "Forget what just happened. We're starting over."
Before Loyce could fully digest the meaning of his words, an even more powerful, undeniable force swept over her.
Her breathing hitched...
