Morris pondered for a moment. "I suppose Ms. Lonsdale's invitation allows her a few plus-ones?"
Loyce tilted her head. "I imagine so. Why?"
Morris smiled. "A friend of mine happens to be back in Metropia. He's a senior expert in archaeology. If I mention this to him, I think he'd be extremely interested in tagging along."
Loyce instantly caught on to her brother's scheme. A knowing smile bloomed on her lips. "Of course. That sounds perfect."
The night of the charity gala arrived at the A7 and A8 plots owned by Macrostar Production.
The once-barren land had been specially leveled and covered in red carpets. It was elaborately decorated, blazing with brilliant lights as guests mingled throughout the venue.
A massive blueprint of the Olympic stadium stood as a towering backdrop in the center of the event, looking overwhelmingly grandiose.
Edgar and Alicia Seabrook were glowing, weaving through the crowd and soaking in a tidal wave of flattery.
Everyone in the vicinity caught the veiled insult. Their gazes darted back and forth between Alicia and Loyce, their eyes alight with the thrill of impending drama.
Edgar played along, sighing deeply and putting on an expression of profound heartache. "Loyce is incredibly bright, but she's young and severely lacks corporate management experience. Like I said before, the only reason I stepped in to run Macrostar was because I couldn't bear to see her parents' life's work run into the ground. I didn't hand the company over to her back then because I knew her youth clouded her judgment. If I really had given Macrostar to her, we would have absolutely lost out on this Olympic stadium project, and Macrostar would have faded into obscurity. So you see, when push comes to shove, you need us old-timers steering the ship."
The other Macrostar executives, who now fully trusted Edgar and completely despised Loyce's 'idiotic' attempt to steal the company, chimed in in agreement. "Exactly! It's Mr. Lonsdale's incredible foresight that's steering Macrostar toward a brighter future. As far as we're concerned, you are the one and only boss of Macrostar."
The husband and wife played perfectly off each other, doing everything in their power to smear Loyce. They painted themselves as the ultimate saviors of Macrostar, while branding Loyce's previous warnings as nothing more than stupidity and shortsightedness.
