She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 861

"Lucian! You think you've won? I hold the controlling stake in Stellar Trust! Even with all your so-called evidence, the board can't touch me!"

Lucian looked at him, his gaze as still as a dark abyss. Then, he smiled.

The subtle curve of his lips sent a chill straight down Horace's spine.

"Are you entirely sure about that, Horace?" Lucian asked softly.

Horace's pupils constricted.

Lucian gestured to a middle-aged man sitting quietly in the corner. The man stood and walked toward the head of the conference table. He was the Chief Legal Officer of Stellar Trust, a loyal executive who had worked under Horace for twenty years.

"Mr. Sterling," the CLO began, his voice trembling slightly but his words clear. "According to the corporate bylaws, if the chairman is implicated in major illegal activities, the board can convene a special session. With a two-thirds majority vote, they can strip him of his title and freeze his assets."

Horace's eyes widened in disbelief. "You're betraying me too?! Since when?"

The CLO kept his eyes trained on the table. "Furthermore, according to a proxy agreement you signed last year, fifteen percent of your shares are actually owned by a Mr. Seymour Lombard. And Mr. Lombard—"

He paused, glancing at Lucian. Lucian gave a slight nod.

The CLO took a deep breath and delivered the final blow. "He has delegated his full voting rights to Mr. Lucian Shapiro."

The boardroom erupted into chaos.

Horace's face went from flushed, to pale, to a sickly gray. "Impossible! Who the hell is Seymour Lombard?! I don't even know him!"

Lucian's lips curled into a cold smirk. "Of course you don't. Because Seymour Lombard is just an alias for Sexton Calvert."

He shifted his gaze. Sexton Calvert stood up and slowly approached Horace.

Twenty years ago, Horace had manipulated the system to steal his life's work. Twenty years later, Sexton had come to take it back.

"Did you ever think, Horace," Sexton said, his voice dripping with venom, "when you used a fake identity to con me out of my shares, that one day, I would use the exact same method to strip you of everything?"

Horace swayed on his feet, gripping the edge of the table to keep from collapsing. He whipped his head toward the other board members, his voice hoarse. "Are you just going to sit there and let him do this?! He's an outsider! He betrayed Stellar Trust! You—"

Dead silence.

The shareholders who had been smiling at him moments ago now avoided his gaze. A few even subtly pushed their chairs back, eager to distance themselves.

Horace's heart plummeted. He turned to Sigrid, a desperate plea in his voice. "Sigrid! Say something! He's your fiancé! You're carrying his child!"
