She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 880

The two detectives exchanged bewildered looks. "Chief, this man is a suspect in a brutal aggravated assault. The victim's bones were practically pulverized. They've already hired a lawyer."

"Shut your mouth!" Chief Evans roared, shooting them a lethal glare. He instantly spun back to Hank, his face contorting into a desperate, groveling smile. "Mr. Lonsdale! This is a massive misunderstanding. These rookies don't know any better. Please, forgive the intrusion."

Hank slowly raised his eyes, fixing the Chief with a chilling stare.

He didn't say a word.

Sweat began pouring down Chief Evans's forehead.

He practically threw himself forward, fumbling with his keys to unlock the cuffs. "I'll have an escort take you home immediately, sir. We will handle this situation with the utmost severity. The man who filed the false report, and this 'Alfie' character—none of them will get away with this."

Hank rubbed his freed wrists and stood up.

He walked toward the door, stopping right at the threshold.

"Chief Evans."

The Chief nearly tripped over himself rushing over. "Yes, sir! Whatever you need."

Hank slowly lifted his hand, casually displaying the angry red welt the baton had left behind. His voice was dangerously soft. "Your officers seem to enjoy police brutality. And then there's the matter of the man who touched my wife."

Seeing the bruise, Chief Evans looked as if he were about to have a heart attack. Pure terror gripped him.

"I am so incredibly sorry, sir!" The Chief bowed at a perfect ninety-degree angle, his voice trembling with sincerity. "I will personally see to it that everything is handled. I will give you a thoroughly satisfactory resolution."

Watching their boss grovel, the young detective suddenly realized he had made a fatal mistake.

Hank pushed the door open and walked out.

The second the door clicked shut, Chief Evans kicked the young detective squarely in the thigh. "Who told you to hit him?! Do you have any idea who the hell that is?!"

The detective grabbed the table, his eyes wide with panic. "I'm sorry, Chief, he wasn't cooperating, so I—"

"His last name is Lonsdale! The son of the wealthiest family in the world! He controls the global arms market! Do you understand now?!" the Chief screamed.

Hearing those credentials, a cold sweat broke out across the detective's back. "Oh my god, I didn't know—"

"Don't apologize to me!" Chief Evans barked. "Your only priority right now is giving Mr. Lonsdale the 'satisfactory resolution' he asked for! Dig into this Alfie and his loudmouth mother! Find every parking ticket, every tax discrepancy, every skeleton in their closet! Audit their entire bloodline and bring me enough to bury them!"

The two detectives scrambled over each other to run out of the room.

Wiping his forehead with a trembling hand, Chief Evans pulled out his phone and dialed a number.

"Hello, Mr. Ludlow? Yes, it's me... Look, Mr. Lonsdale ran into a slight issue tonight, but he's already leaving the station. Yes, yes, absolutely, I've got everything under control. The best lawyers are already on standby, don't you worry..."
