She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 889

"She was just a temporary fling for Hank Lonsdale, a total plaything. Is she really worth losing sleep over, Jocelyn?"

A group of heavily styled debutantes lounged inside the private room. The most striking among them was dressed in a pristine couture suit, casually holding a slim cigarette. It was Jocelyn Kendal.

"Is she even prettier than Jocelyn?" another girl scoffed.

"Not a chance. I dug up a photo of her from a few years ago. She's completely plain. Looks like she buys her clothes off a discount rack."

"Then why is Jocelyn stressing? Hank must have hit his head if he actually liked her."

Hearing this, Giselle couldn't help but let out a soft, amused laugh. Because the door was cracked open, Jocelyn immediately spotted her. But before she could say anything, Giselle had already turned and walked away.

Jocelyn immediately shot up from her seat and chased after her, finally catching up just as Giselle was about to get into her car. "Ms. Turner."

Giselle paused, turning around with a perfectly polite expression. "If you followed me out here to threaten me, you can save your breath. Mr. Lonsdale must have hit his head years ago to have that brief fling with me. It meant nothing."

Jocelyn hadn't expected her to be so remarkably unbothered. "My friends lack filters," she deflected smoothly, offering a sleek business card. "My mother actually needs some custom gowns made at Bloomberry. Since you're the new lead designer, maybe we can get to know each other."

Giselle glanced at the card. What a coincidence. The nightmare client terrorizing the entire company was this woman's mother.

She gracefully accepted the card and handed over her own.

"We're hosting a small gathering at my family's estate tomorrow," Jocelyn added. "You can come by in the morning to take my mother's measurements and discuss some design inspirations. Does that work for you?"

Giselle had been trying to figure out a way into the Kendal estate anyway. Regardless of whatever twisted game this woman was playing, it was an opportunity she couldn't pass up. "I'll be there on time," she agreed immediately.

Jocelyn offered a flawless smile. "Perfect. I have to get back inside to wait for Hank to pick me up, so I won't keep you."

Giselle nodded and got into her car. As she drove off, she glanced in her rearview mirror and saw a sleek black SUV pull up next to Jocelyn. A man stepped out—it was unmistakably Hank.

"What were you talking about with Giselle?" he demanded the second his feet hit the pavement. He had clearly witnessed the interaction.

The absolute icy hostility radiating from him made Jocelyn's heart skip a beat, but she forced a teasing smile. "Why so nervous? Did you think I was going to eat her alive?"

Hank stared her down, his eyes dangerous.

Jocelyn rarely saw him this genuinely unhinged. Knowing she had crossed a line, she quickly pivoted. "I randomly found out she's the designer assigned to my mother. I invited her to my family's estate tomorrow morning. Do you want to come?"

She smirked. "I just handed you an excuse to see her on a silver platter. Are you really going to pass that up?"

Hank's expression finally thawed slightly. He looked at her and let out a brief, cynical laugh. "No wonder you've survived at our card table for this long."

Jocelyn laughed along with him, but her mind was calculating. She knew better than to play standard, jealous-girlfriend mind games. Tactics like that were useless against a man like Hank Lonsdale.
