She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 892

"I wasn't aware of any design process that requires a full day just to take measurements, nor was I aware that a designer has to wear an apron and serve food from the kitchen..." His face was an icy mask. "Mrs. Kendal, explain yourself."

The room was so quiet that the ticking of the wall clock echoed clearly.

Mrs. Kendal hadn't expected him to defend the woman so publicly. Trying to salvage her pride, she said, "Hank, let's not blow this out of proportion. I just gave this designer a multimillion-dollar contract. She's going to make a huge commission off this. Asking her for a small favor isn't a big deal."

Jocelyn quickly chimed in. "Hank, my mother didn't know the situation, she—"

"You didn't know?" He turned his sharp gaze to Jocelyn, his eyes as cold as a frozen river. "I assumed you would have informed your mother that the designer coming today is my friend."

He saw right through everything—including Jocelyn's hidden motives.

Her smile completely shattered. She opened her mouth to speak, but under his piercing stare, the words died in her throat.

Of course she knew. She had known since Giselle stood in the rain for half an hour. She knew about her friends mocking Giselle. She knew about every humiliating task her mother had assigned today.

And she had done absolutely nothing.

Because she wanted to see what was so special about this woman.

She wanted to see if Hank would intervene, and how.

Now she had her answer. He was publicly humiliating her and her family to protect the designer.

The entire dining room held its breath. The contempt they had previously felt for Giselle instantly transformed into sheer terror and awe.

Hank pulled his gaze away. He picked up a napkin from the table, methodically wiped his hands, and walked past the long table until he reached Giselle.

He looked down at her.

"This designer," he announced, his voice carrying through the silent room, "is my sister's absolute favorite professional, and her mother saved my brother-in-law's life. She is not someone you have the right to step on."
