The company group chat exploded in a frenzy. After getting an update on Giselle's condition from the nurse, Chloe left, completely reassured that her boss was in good hands.
Once the two IV bags were empty, Hank had the nurse remove the needle. Carrying the bags of medication, he carried Giselle out to the SUV and drove back to the inn.
He drove with smooth precision, ensuring she didn't wake up.
When Giselle finally opened her eyes, she was tucked into the soft bed in her room. Her mind was foggy, and her stomach still felt slightly unsettled.
She tried to shift, only to realize there was an arm wrapped tightly around her waist. She turned her head and saw Hank sound asleep next to her, his large hand still resting protectively over her stomach.
The moment she tried to inch away, the fiercely alert man woke up. Letting out a lazy groan, he pulled her flush against his chest, burying his face in her shoulder. "Stop moving. Go back to sleep."
Giselle pushed at his chest, her voice still raspy. "I need to use the bathroom."
Hearing that, he opened his eyes, stared at her for a second, then threw off the covers and scooped her up into his arms, carrying her straight into the bathroom.
He set her down in front of the toilet and immediately reached for the waistband of her pants. Giselle grabbed his hands, panicked. "What are you doing?!"
"Can you manage on your own?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I had gastroenteritis, my arms and legs aren't broken. Get out," she snapped, biting her lip in embarrassment.
"Fine. Call me if you can't get back up." Hank relented, stepping outside to wait by the door.
After finishing up, Giselle splashed some cold water on her face to wake herself up. Her reflection in the mirror was still incredibly pale and sickly.
When she walked out, hair brushed and face washed, Hank frowned deeply. "You're not going back to sleep?"
She sidestepped him, walking over to her suitcase to pull out a fresh set of clothes. "I'm here for work."
"You look like a ghost. You're going to work like this?" Hank grabbed her by the arm, anger flaring in his eyes. "I can get your work handled for you. Right now, your only job is to get back in that bed and sleep."
She yanked her arm back, glaring at him. "It's none of your business."
"Oh, really?"
Hank was absolutely furious with her stubbornness. He gently but firmly gripped her chin and brought his mouth down on hers, kissing her deep and demanding.
She lacked the strength to push him away. He parted her lips, kissing her with a fierce, possessive intensity, the sound of his ragged breaths filling the quiet room.
Only when he felt she had finally stopped fighting him did he pull back. Resting his forehead against hers, his voice was a low, rough rumble. "I know you want to prove yourself. I know you want to crush this project. But you are the mother of my child, and I refuse to let anything happen to you that would make her cry."
