She Was the Treasure All Along novel Chapter 945

Gigi wasn't shy at all. Sitting on Gordon's lap, she kicked her little legs and said brightly, "Great-grandpa, Mommy said we were coming to see you today, and she said I should bring a gift! I picked this out all by myself!"

She pulled a small box wrapped in colorful paper from her little purse and handed it to him.

Gordon unwrapped it to find a hand-drawn chess set. The characters on the pieces were crooked and clearly drawn by a child, but the effort and care put into them were obvious.

"You drew this yourself, sweetheart?" Gordon asked, deeply touched.

Gigi nodded proudly. "Mommy said I did a great job!"

Gordon threw his head back and laughed, his wrinkles smoothing out with pure joy. "It's beautiful! This is the best gift I've ever received. From now on, I'll only use this set to beat your daddy at chess."

Marcella watched the little girl with absolute adoration. She brought out a bowl of sweet dessert soup she had prepared that morning, offering it to Gigi.

Gigi looked at Giselle. "Mommy, can I have some?"

Giselle nodded. "Say thank you to Marcella."

Just then, heavy footsteps echoed from the hallway, and Hank strode into the room. He wore a dark gray button-down, the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, exposing his strong wrists. He looked less like a terrifying mafia boss and more relaxed, yet utterly commanding.

The moment he walked in, his eyes locked onto Giselle, the corners of his lips curving up effortlessly.

"You're here," he murmured, walking over and sitting naturally beside her. He rested his arm along the back of the sofa behind her, a gesture that was intimately possessive without crossing any lines.

Giselle glanced at him. "You're late."

Hank looked over at Morris. "Ran into a little situation. Did you know your assistant got herself into some massive trouble?"

Morris lounged elegantly on the sofa, lifting his gaze at the comment. "Helena? What happened?"

"I was checking out the Ironshod Project site today and ran into her," Hank explained smoothly. "Her parents sold her off to settle a million-dollar debt. I saw her being dragged away and intervened."

Morris's fingers twitched slightly. "You handled it?"

"I figured she was your responsibility, so I had my men drop her off at your suburban villa. She seems a bit mentally unstable."

Morris nodded, his tone mild. "I'll go check on her later."

He didn't look surprised in the slightest. Hank raised an eyebrow but didn't press further.
