On the other end, Celine finally regained her composure.

She immediately dialed her uncle Yosef’s number.

He picked up almost instantly.

“Celine! What a surprise—what brings you to call me today?”

Yosef was genuinely fond of his niece. She was not only well-educated but also impeccably polite. If only his own daughter were half as sensible, his worries would be over.

Celine’s voice was soft and sweet. “Uncle.”

She paused for a moment, then continued, “Uncle, I need a favor.”

Yosef’s interest was piqued. Celine had never come to him for help before. No matter what it was, he’d have to say yes. If he handled it well, he could brag to his sister Sommer about it later—and maybe get Celine to introduce his daughter Sasha to some of the more influential people in her circle. Who knew? Maybe Sasha could even land a wealthy husband.

With that, Yosef didn’t hesitate. “Of course, Celine. Don’t be so formal with your uncle—just tell me what you need.”

Celine had already rehearsed what she wanted to say. “It’s about Hester. You know she made a small mistake, but she’s still my sister, even if she’s only recently been adopted by Mom and Dad. I want her to be okay. Could you help me look for her? I won’t be at ease until I know she’s doing well.”

Yosef’s heart sank.

Damn it.

Just five minutes ago, Sommer had called, grilling him about why he still hadn’t found Hester. He was frustrated too—how could a person just vanish into thin air? He’d even reached out to friends at the police department to help search, but there’d been no luck. Sommer was so angry she’d hung up on him.

And now Celine was asking about Hester too? This was getting complicated.

Apparently, Hester still held a lot of weight in the Sutton family.

Feeling awkward, Yosef admitted, “To tell you the truth, your mother’s already asked me to look for her. But we haven’t been able to find her. I’ve got people searching, and as soon as there’s any news, you’ll be the first to know.”
