She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 245

Lyra grabbed the keys to an old, dusty sedan that had been sitting in their garage for ages and fired up the engine, heading straight for the venue.

The Jameson Grand was already a madhouse. Hordes of reporters carrying heavy camera equipment swarmed the main entrance, creating a massive barricade of lenses and microphones.

Knowing she couldn't risk getting caught in that crowd, Lyra circled the block and pulled into the parking lot of a budget chain hotel directly across the street. She snagged a perfect spot facing the venue, killed the engine, and sat quietly in the driver's seat.

It was the perfect vantage point to watch the chaos unfold at the entrance opposite her.

By the time the clock ticked past ten, the VIPs started arriving. The roar of the crowd intensified. Lyra watched as a sleek convoy of luxury cars glided up to the doors—one of them driven by the head butler from the Jameson's main estate.

When the Jameson family stepped out, the wall of reporters made it almost impossible to see. Lyra could only catch a brief glimpse of Alistair in a formal tailored suit as he was ushered inside by a heavy security detail.

Rowan and Jasmine, however, were nowhere to be seen. Not even a passing silhouette.

Shortly after, Rowan's inner circle arrived. A parade of vibrantly colored, top-tier sports cars roared down the street, tearing aggressively toward the hotel entrance in a display of pure arrogance.

The engagement was meant to be highly exclusive. Aside from the Jamesons and the Fords, the guest list was strictly limited to Rowan's closest friends and Jasmine's cousin's family.

Elara Townsend practically skipped out of the hotel doors, craning her neck in every direction as she searched eagerly for Lucas.

Lyra rested her arms over the steering wheel, her eyes locked on the clock ticking on her dashboard.

Eleven-thirty.

Suddenly, the distant, unmistakable wail of police sirens pierced the air. The sound grew louder, sharper, cutting through the murmurs of the crowd.

Here it comes—

Lyra's heart hammered violently against her ribs. A wave of overwhelming, electric anticipation gripped her tightly.

She leaned forward against the windshield. Five police cruisers tore down the street, lights flashing in a massive show of force.

Lyra knew damn well they were only here for Jonathan Ford. Pulling up with this kind of aggressive spectacle meant one thing: they weren't giving the Jamesons an ounce of respect.

The cruisers slammed to a halt directly in front of the hotel. Several uniformed officers stepped out and marched toward the doors, instantly clashing with the hotel's security detail. A tense standoff formed on the steps.

The head of security was frantically barking into a radio. The lead officer simply flashed a warrant, shoved the security guard aside, and led his team straight into the grand lobby.
