Once Leo had taken the initial brunt of Madeline's fury, Lyra figured it would be much easier to deal with.
Twenty minutes later, Lyra walked into the private room at the club and froze. It wasn't just Madeline and Leo. Lucas, Rowan, and Jasmine were all sitting there too.
Madeline didn't care about making a scene in front of an audience. "You actually had my boyfriend beaten up?!"
"My guys did it," Leo interjected quickly.
Madeline ignored him. "Every single time you made a decision, I supported you as your best friend! But the second I start dating someone, you hate everything about him. Does a best friend's boyfriend need your approval? Who gave you the right to be so picky? Know your place! As long as I like him, that's all that matters."
Lyra was taken aback, instinctively shrinking back a little. "Peyton is not a good guy."
"You have the nerve to judge me?" Madeline scoffed, her voice dripping with venom. "Weren't you the one who saw York Somerset at a restaurant, completely ditched me, stopped going to the gym with me, and ran off after him?!"
Lyra stared at her. "Excuse me?"
"And you only hired Quentin Pierce with that ridiculous salary because he has a pretty face!"
Her voice echoed off the walls, loud enough for everyone in the room to hear clearly.
Lyra felt a flash of embarrassment, followed quickly by anger. "Can you shut up? I hired them for their skills! It's completely different!"
Lucas wasn't about to let it go. He leaned back, smirking. "You're still the exact same, Lyra. You lose your mind the second you see a pretty face."
Lyra glared at him. "I hired them because they are capable. Not for how they look."
Lucas ignored her, turning to Rowan. "Do you believe her, Rowan?"
Rowan rarely ever participated in their petty bickering. Everyone expected him to stay silent, but then he spoke up.
