She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 335

"You didn't get any shots inside the private room?"

"No."

Rowan's voice was deadly. "As a competent bodyguard, you should have—"

"I'm not invisible, and they aren't blind," Harrison shot back, feeling like the CEO was setting impossible standards. "Even from that distance, I'm pretty sure Mr. Ward spotted me."

Rowan stood up, grabbing his suit jacket. "They hugged in broad daylight, and Lyra didn't push him away?"

"No, she didn't," Harrison answered truthfully.

Jacket in hand, Rowan stormed out of the office. While waiting for the elevator, he pulled out his phone and dialed his father. "What's the background on Jayden Ward?"

On the other end, Commissioner Jameson offered his assessment. "He's young to be in such a high position, but he holds it well. Principled yet adaptable, never flaunts his authority, and treats everyone with humility. He's incredibly grounded, incorruptible, and highly respected. Why do you ask?"

Stepping into his car, Rowan let out a dark chuckle. "Hah... incorruptible. That's exactly what I needed to know."

Incorruptible meant he had power, but no real money. If Jayden wanted to buy Lyra a million-dollar bag, he'd have to resort to taking bribes.

A man whose annual salary couldn't even break seven figures thought he had the right to compete with him for a woman?

Rowan tossed his phone onto the passenger seat, his long fingers gripping the steering wheel. He slammed his foot on the gas, the hypercar roaring to life and launching up the ramp, shooting out of the underground garage.

Out on the streets, the sight of the multimillion-dollar masterpiece had every driver instinctively slowing down, parting like the sea to let him pass.

Speeding like a bullet, the car soon screeched to a halt outside the Fairchild estate. Mr. Lawrence walked over to open the gate. He had just returned from the airport, and seeing Rowan looking for Lyra, a look of surprise crossed his face. "Mr. Jameson, Miss Fairchild already boarded her flight."

"She flew to Philadelphia to see the lavender fields with Miss Vance and Mr. Chavez."

Rowan's face went entirely blank. He climbed back into the car, whipped the steering wheel around, and headed straight for the government district.

It was just past one in the afternoon, the peak of the lunch hour. Jayden Ward was sitting in a relaxed circle with a few subordinates, playing chess.
