Lyra's eyes stayed locked on Andrea the entire time.
"Of course," Caleb agreed, grabbing Lyra's car keys from the table. The two of them walked out the front door side by side. The walk was quiet until Caleb finally broke the silence. "My sister told me what happened. Thank you for your help that day."
Andrea offered a faint, perfectly polite smile. "It was nothing. You really don't need to thank me."
When they reached Lyra's car in the driveway, Caleb unlocked it and leaned deep into the driver's seat, feeling around the floorboards.
A moment later, as he pulled his head out, Andrea's hand shot out with practiced speed, resting flat against the roof of the car right above the doorframe. "Careful, Caleb. Don't hit your head."
"I'm fine." Caleb held up a small, sleek earbud, turning to her. "Is this it?"
"Yes, that's the one." Andrea took it from him, a nearly imperceptible gleam of triumph flashing in her eyes.
She had successfully secured both items she came for. With her mission accomplished, there was no reason to linger. She gave a crisp, respectful nod. "I'll be taking my leave then. Congratulations again on becoming a father."
"Thank you!" Caleb beamed, practically radiating joy.
Andrea left the estate and drove straight to the Seaborne Forensics Lab, carrying a strand of Caleb's hair and the tiny baby hairs she had discreetly plucked.
The next morning, Wesley Wade practically perked up in his seat when he saw Andrea knock and enter the CEO's office. Was he about to witness the ultimate high-society scandal?
Rowan silently flipped open the folder Andrea handed him. The bold red numbers on the paternity test practically screamed off the page. The DNA match was 99.9%. Wesley caught a glimpse of it immediately.
Rowan's dark, piercing gaze slowly lifted to Andrea. "Sometimes I genuinely forget you're a woman, but seeing this confirms it. You really do have a talent for gossiping."
Andrea rubbed the back of her neck. "Sorry, Boss. Waylon's reaction was just so completely abnormal that I had to..."
Rowan tossed the document back across the desk. "Put it through the shredder. Leave no trace."
