The moment the lunatic spoke.
Lyra had the overwhelming urge to bolt.
She leaned into Maddie, practically hiding behind her.
Sabrina looked ready to shove Maddie out of her chair and take her spot.
Her gaze fell to Lyra's manicured nails, sensing that Lyra was trying a bit too hard to cover something up.
The crowd couldn't read Rowan's mood. He looked exhausted, the dark circles under his eyes making his presence even more intimidating. Unsure if he was genuinely angry, the handsome guy sitting next to Leo joked, "Well, the leading lady isn't here, so you couldn't demonstrate even if you wanted to..."
Lyra's stomach cramped violently. She pressed a hand to her abdomen and leaned heavily against Maddie. "I think I want to leave..."
Maddie glanced over at Leo, but the idiot was still busy drinking with the guys.
"Darling," Sabrina offered, turning to Lyra. "Are you feeling unwell? Should I have someone take you home?"
Rowan's gaze snapped up. "Darling?"
Sabrina smiled, dropping her voice. "She's not just your darling."
Rowan looked taken aback. "Who are you?"
Leo walked over. "That's Maddie's cousin."
Seeing that Rowan still didn't recognize her, he added, "Zachary Vance's daughter."
That jogged Rowan's memory. He vaguely recalled that Zachary's daughter was a bit of a psycho who loved sneaking around with a camera. If caught, she would play dumb and wander off, only to return minutes later like a persistent fly.
He remembered once asking her if she had a death wish, and her replying that she wanted to live.
