Agnes and Jasmine left the Sawyer estate much earlier than usual that day.
Normally, Agnes would stay behind to listen to classical music with Mrs. Sawyer, but today she made a swift exit.
Even though Jasmine had managed to smooth things over after Lyra's explosive accusations, there was no way Mrs. Sawyer wouldn't retain at least a sliver of suspicion. The fact that their flawless plan had almost been derailed left Agnes absolutely livid.
Her face was a mask of dark fury as she marched out of the courtyard and practically threw herself into the backseat of her waiting car.
She pulled out her phone and dialed Thomas Townsend. "Find some thugs to gang-rape Lyra Fairchild. She loves throwing herself at men so much, doesn't she?"
"You're scared of Rowan Jameson? Useless! This is the kind of thing a woman takes to her grave. Do you honestly think she's going to run to Rowan and announce she's ruined? And if she does, you think a man like him will still want her?"
"The wounds they can't speak of are the ones that destroy them completely."
Agnes sneered. "Rowan is a known germaphobe. He won't touch a woman someone else has used."
"Hurry up. Get it done before she makes it back to Seaborne City."
On the other end of the line, Thomas hesitated.
...
Back at the restaurant.
Frederick took a seat across from Lyra, his eyes studying her. "Why are you out here alone? Don't you live in Seaborne City?"
Lyra recognized him as Caleb's high school classmate. A bitter smile tugged at her lips, and she kept her voice low. "I got kicked out by the Sawyer family."
Frederick raised an eyebrow. "What happened?"
Lyra sighed. "Do you know them? Mrs. Sawyer has a massive fortune, and someone is specifically targeting her for it. I tried to warn her, but she didn't believe a word I said."
Frederick nodded slowly. "I know them well. We're actually related—her daughter-in-law is my cousin."
Lyra's eyes lit up instantly. She instinctively reached out, grabbing the back of his hand. "Could you go back to the estate with me?"
"She might not believe me, but she'll definitely believe you. You're family! Honestly, as her relative, you should be the one worrying about whether she's being targeted."
