The group returned to the Fairchild estate. The moment they stepped inside, Delilah grabbed Lyra's hands, her eyes brimming with heartache. "My sweet girl, you've suffered so much."
She laid down a new rule. "From this day forward, no one in this house is allowed to mention that man's name."
She then went to thank Frederick.
Noticing Lyra's low spirits and the heavy atmosphere in the house, Frederick realized it wasn't appropriate for him to stay. After a brief conversation, he excused himself.
Caleb walked him out. "Frederick, thank you so much for everything you've done recently."
Once Frederick left, Delilah sighed softly, speaking from the heart. "We're so lucky Frederick never stopped looking for you. Even Caleb wasn't as dedicated as him."
Lyra didn't reply to that. She simply said, "I'm going to check on the kids."
With that, she turned and walked upstairs.
The nursery was quiet. Andrea Nash was gently rocking a baby in her arms, her movements tender and careful. Hearing footsteps, she looked up at Lyra. "Miss Fairchild..."
Lyra walked slowly to the crib, her gaze falling on the sleeping child. Her voice was very soft. "Thank you for your hard work. I'm sorry for troubling you to watch them all this time. Where's the new nanny?"
"The new nanny came and went. It seems they can't find a suitable fit."
Lyra looked surprised. "What? It's been so many days. Have you been taking care of them this whole time?"
Feeling incredibly guilty, Lyra didn't have time to chat. She turned and quickly went downstairs to find Delilah.
