Upon arriving at the company, Wesley said, "Miss Ford is here."
Rowan gave an expressionless nod.
Sure enough, as soon as he reached the top floor, Jasmine was waiting.
"Good morning, Rowan." Being back together with Rowan had left Jasmine thrilled. Her cheeks were flushed, and she looked radiant.
Rowan shot her an unreadable glance. "Lyra came to Blackwood Manor yesterday, hoping I'd change my mind."
Jasmine's smile instantly froze, her heart seizing as if gripped by an invisible hand. She hastily asked, "And how did you respond?"
The rumors were still circulating out there that Rowan and Lyra had spent days and nights together on the mountain, inseparable. Thinking about how intimate they used to be, and remembering how she had once stood outside Blackwood Manor half the night without seeing Lyra leave, the thought of what Rowan might have been doing to Lyra made Jasmine's chest ache violently.
Rowan replied calmly, "I'm marrying you, so naturally I didn't let her stay the night."
Hearing this, the suffocating knot in her chest vanished. Jasmine's tense back relaxed slightly, and she let out a huge, secret sigh of relief.
Even after leaving Jameson Group, Jasmine still felt deeply unsettled.
She immediately made a phone call. "I can't believe Lyra is so shameless to go looking for him at Blackwood Manor. Thank goodness Rowan didn't take the bait. Let's go over to the Fairchild house right now."
On the other end, Tabitha was still terrified of Rowan's retaliation. "Will this make him angry?"
"Rowan has changed, ever since I took that bullet for him. He doesn't care about Lyra at all anymore. He's completely devoted to me now..."
Tabitha breathed a sigh of relief.
She quickly rallied Elara and a few others, and the group marched imposingly toward the Fairchild residence.
Lyra hadn't gone into the office that day. She slept in very late and slowly got out of bed. When she spoke, her voice was thick with congestion and sounded soft and weak; it was obvious she had caught a severe cold.
"Did you not get enough rest?"
Kayla noticed Lyra looked a bit under the weather. "Even though Fairchild Holdings is facing difficulties right now, you don't need to be so anxious. Mom said you came back really late last night..."
"Anyway, your brother is holding down the fort for the family."
