She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 562

"Mom, I'm really going for work this time," Lyra quickly explained. "You can have Mr. Lawrence follow me to the airport to watch me board, or you can even take me yourself."

That eased most of Delilah's doubts. Her expression softened slightly. "Just be careful out there."

Wasting no time, Lyra got into Mr. Lawrence's car and sped straight to the airport.

Meanwhile, Rowan arrived at his corporate office.

Andrea Nash had already placed the USB drive containing the surveillance footage neatly on his desk.

Rowan's voice was tight. "Is the footage complete? It hasn't been tampered with?"

"It's completely intact," Andrea confirmed.

Hearing that only made Rowan's blood run colder. He took a deep breath, plugged in the drive, and clicked on the video file.

The screen displayed a crystal-clear image. Before Lyra had even lain down on the operating table, her slender frame was shaking uncontrollably, radiating sheer helplessness.

Rowan's breath hitched.

His eyes were glued to that pale, fragile figure on the screen, his throat tightening with raw pain.

From the computer speakers came the doctor's gentle persuasion: 'If you aren't absolutely certain, you can take some time to discuss it with your family.'

The next second, Lyra's voice replied, thick with tears but absolute in its resolve: 'No. I thought it through before I came.'

She lay down on the cold surgical bed, shifting uncomfortably, curling up on her side before stiffly lying flat on her back at the surgical assistant's instruction.

Tears poured down her cheeks, splashing onto the sterile white drapes and blooming into dark, wet stains.

Just seeing her so isolated, terrified, and shaking filled Rowan with an agonizing regret that tore at his insides. He wished he could shatter the screen and drag her out of that room.

'Close your eyes. You'll wake up and it will be all over.'

The simple, comforting phrase carried a weight they both understood—the procedure was about to begin.

Rowan couldn't take it anymore. He shot up from his chair, his voice hoarse as he looked at Andrea. "You watch it."

Andrea froze. Her boss was always the epitome of untouchable, calculating composure. It was incredibly rare to see him lose control like this.

Rowan collapsed onto the sofa. Seeing a pack of cigarettes on the coffee table, he pulled one out and lit it with trembling hands.

Andrea pressed play.

What followed was Lyra's panicked, bloodcurdling scream.
