She's Too Busy Winning to Watch Him Cry novel Chapter 711

That evening, Lyra was sitting on the edge of the bed building blocks with Pip when her phone rang. The caller ID showed it was Caleb. She picked it up, and Caleb's barely contained excitement poured through the speaker. He rambled on with endless gratitude, raving about how perfectly the suits fit and gushing over the watch. He called her the best sister in the entire world, thoroughly grossing her out with his sappy speech.

Hanging up without hesitation, Lyra put Pip to bed, washed up, and leaned against the headboard, flipping through a magazine to kill time.

Rowan had a business dinner, so he hadn't made it back for their meal. By the time he walked in, Lyra was just about to lie down and go to sleep.

The faint, crisp scent of alcohol lingered on his clothes. Afraid she was already asleep, he walked with incredibly light steps. Seeing her dark eyes still open, he walked up to the side of the bed and asked, "You're still awake? Were you waiting for me?"

Lyra rolled over, turning her back to him. "In your dreams."

A smile played in the man's eyes. His gaze swept over the nightstand, immediately landing on the exquisite little gift box.

He paused, picking up the box and looking at her. "What's this?" he asked softly.

"A gift for you." Lyra shot him a quick glance before quickly looking away.

Rowan opened it up and peeked inside. Utter joy instantly flooded his eyes. He reached down and scooped his wife into his arms, spinning her around in a circle as she let out a startled gasp, making her feel completely cherished.

Lyra instinctively gripped his collar, looking bewildered. "It's just a tie. Are you really that happy?"

Rowan gazed down at her, his eyes brimming with warmth. "I'm incredibly happy. It's a very handsome tie."

"That's good..." Lyra felt a tiny bit guilty. It was literally a free gift-with-purchase.

Before she could lower her eyes to avoid his gaze, Rowan dipped his head and gently pressed his lips against hers.

After kissing for a moment, Lyra pushed lightly against his chest. "How many female secretaries do you have?"

Rowan let out a low chuckle, the vibration of his chest rumbling against her skin.

Finally finding a brief window to breathe, Lyra gasped and murmured quietly, "...Yeah, I really hate it."

Rowan chuckled softly right against her ear, his warm breath ghosting over her skin. "Then I'll listen to my wife. No more female secretaries from now on."

With that, he lowered his head and kissed her tenderly once again.

...

When Lyra woke up the next morning, Rowan had already left for the office, and the gift-with-purchase tie from last night had vanished with him.

Lyra stood at the bathroom sink brushing her teeth while clicking on a message from Madeline Vance. It contained a link. When she tapped it, she saw candid photos from her shopping spree yesterday plastered all over the internet. The comment section was exploding:

[Mrs. Jameson loves her husband so much! She went out of her way to buy him all those gifts. So thoughtful.]
