Chapter 1010
The faces of the Kalen family members turned stormy in unison. None of them had expected Sharon not only to strike first with her accusations but to play the fool on top of it.
Silas, hot-tempered as ever, was the first to lose control. He jabbed a finger at her and roared, “Keep pretending, Sharon! Don’t think we don’t know exactly what you’ve done!”
Sharon widened her eyes in surprise. “Oh? From the way you say that, it sounds like you know who’s been chasing me. It seems I’m the only one who doesn’t know what terrible crime I’ve committed, or whom I’ve supposedly offended.”
Her tone was mild, even earnest, as she pressed on, “Then please, enlighten me, Silas. What unforgivable sin have I committed to deserve being hunted down and nearly killed?”
Silas opened his mouth reflexively. “You clearly—”
But the rest of the sentence caught in his throat. He suddenly realized that Sharon’s preemptive words had backed them all into a corner.
‘Hunted down. Intent on killing. Nearly killed…’
Each phrase struck like a slap across his face. And the worst part was, Sharon hadn’t exaggerated. Every word was true.
At that moment, irritation flickered in Silas’s chest. Why had Scott gone and made such a spectacle of it?
The family exchanged uneasy glances. For a long while, no one spoke.
It was Richard who finally recovered first. With a forced smile, he asked, “Sharon, you said you went to the airport earlier… to see off a friend?”
Sharon nodded. “That’s right. You can check the flight records if you don’t believe me.”
Then she turned to Rick. “Rick called me earlier, thinking I was running away. I was worried you’d
misunderstand, so I hurried back immediately. Who knew I’d run into such chaos on the road? It’s what delayed me so long.”
Jamie sipped his tea leisurely. “No need for all that. We can settle this according to our prior agreement. Our families have worked together for years. For Victoria’s sake, I’m willing to let it go.”
Thomas’s tone turned glacial. “Oh no, you shouldn’t let it go.’
The room fell into awkward silence.
After a long pause, Jamie’s eyes narrowed. “So, you mean to tell me you have no proof and plan to deny it altogether?”
If things had gone according to their original plan, Sharon would have stepped forward right then and admitted it. But Thomas had claimed to have found the evidence, and so she stayed silent, letting him take the lead.
Thomas smiled faintly.
“Of course not. To falsely accuse the head of the Walton family is indeed a grave offense. Not only would Sharon face condemnation from her own family, but she’d also have to surrender her original shares.”
