I laughed out of pure rage.

Eason was absolutely shameless.

“Since he’s the one who ordered it, he can pay for it himself.”

“If he refuses, call the cops.”

“I have nothing to do with him anymore.”

A few minutes later, Eason called me.

The second I picked up, he started yelling.

“Karina! You trying to embarrass me in front of my boys? Get over here and pay the damn bill!”

I let out a cold laugh.

“Why the hell would I pay your bill?”

Eason said it like it was obvious. “You always paid before when we came here.”

My voice got even colder.

“Oh? Maybe you should think about why I was willing to pay before.”

It finally clicked for him.

Because he was broke. He played the poor boy card, begged me to take care of him, said he’d be my kept husband.

Back then, he was sweet, considerate, and good–looking.

And since I was set to inherit the company, not having to worry about marriage pressure.

So I said yes.

He softened his tone, using the tone that used to make me melt.

“Babe, come on. Don’t be mad. I’ll go with Lorelei tomorrow and file for divorce. Next month, we’ll get our marriage license,”

“Even if I’m technically married to Lorelei right now, you’re the only one in my heart.”

“Lorelei’s my past. She’s got nothing on you.”

If this were before, I would’ve eaten up his sweet talk.

Now it just made me sick.

Lorelei’s voice came through the line.

“She still throwing a tantrum?”

Chapter 2

“You’ve been way too nice to her. Give her a little money and she thinks she runs the world.”

“For real. She’s almost thirty. Who else is gonna marry her besides you?”

Someone else chimed in.

“Exactly. Lorelei’s way better. She’s your soul mate in and out of bed.”

“Honestly, since the license is already messed up, why not just roll with it? Otherwise, you’re screwed for life.”

“Oh, by the way, last night in the car–weren’t the roses poking you guys?”

Everyone burst out laughing.

Listening to all this, I felt nothing but disgust.

No wonder he never wanted me to meet these “brothers” of his.

He was scared I’d see what they were really like.

Eason probably covered the mic–the background noise dropped–but his tone got tougher.

“Just get over here already. Didn’t you always want to meet them? Stop playing hard to get.”

I said calmly. “Fine. You guys wait right there.”

Before I hung up, I heard Eason say smugly.

“See? I’ve been way too soft on her. Now that I’m telling her to come, and she still comes running.”

I almost laughed out loud.

Eason really thought he was something.

I glanced at my phone. Auto–recording saved successfully.

Then I blocked him and got back to work.

I was so pissed I ended up working straight through until the next morning before heading home.

The second I opened the door, I saw clothes scattered everywhere from the entryway all the way to the bedroom.

Eason’s and Lorelei’s clothes from yesterday.

The anger I’d barely managed to suppress came roaring back.

I filled a basin with water in the bathroom, walked into the bedroom, and dumped it straight onto the bed.

The two of them tangled together shot up in a panic, completely naked.
