Chapter 5
A fire is something that always requires a serious investigation.
The firefighter didn’t hesitate to notify the police.
Based on my accusations, the two who’d fled back to Lorelei’s rental apartment were brought to the police station.
Lorelei denied everything aggressively.
“That’s ridiculous! When did I ever try to kill her? She’s making shit up!”
The officer frowned.
“Did you or did you not start that fire?”
Her eyes flickered for a split second, then she denied it outright.
“Of course not! She’s the one who started it!”
“She’s been obsessing over my husband, trying to steal him from me!”
“When he refused, she threatened to kill herself!”
She looked at Eason, eyes practically screaming at him to back her up.
“Right, babe?”
Eason knew damn well that if Lorelei was confirmed for arson with intent to kill, he’d be an accomplice.
So he jumped right in.
“Yeah! Exactly! That’s what happened!”
“She’s a total psycho. I’m already married to my wife, and she’s still trying to force me to divorce her and marry her instead!”
I spoke up.
“First of all, that’s MY house-”
Before I could finish, Lorelei cut me off.
“Only because you insisted on giving it to my husband! You made him live there!”
“It just hasn’t been transferred yet!”
“Officer, my husband’s been living there for ages. The neighbors can confirm it!”
Eason nodded frantically.
“Exactly! So she set the fire herself to force me to marry her. This has nothing to do with us!”
“Now that she knows I won’t divorce my wife and marry her, she’s bitter and wants to frame us for arson to ruin our lives!”

A young officer muttered under his breath.
“If she’s got that much money, why would she throw it away to be a homewrecker?”
Lorelei sneered.
“Probably because she’s almost thirty and still can’t get married. Must’ve messed with her head.”
Eason looked relieved.
They probably thought that as long as they stuck to the same story, they’d be fine.
Too bad for them…
“The house has security cameras.”
That one sentence drained the color from both their faces.
The moment I took out my phone, Eason instinctively lunged at me, trying to grab it.
The officers stopped him.
I pulled up the footage of Lorelei starting the fire and showed it to the police.
Even the officers looked shocked at how arrogant and vicious these two were.
Lorelei still tried to fight back.
“Fake! That video’s fake! It’s Al–generated!”
“Karina Rovella, you bitch! You planned all of this just to set us up!”
But it wasn’t up to her to decide if it was fake.
The police could verify it.
It didn’t take long before they had their answer.
The surveillance footage was real.
Lorelei had no way out.
Eason panicked and immediately threw Lorelei under the bus.
“This has nothing to do with me! I didn’t start the fire! Lorelei did it all!”
“If you’re gonna arrest anyone, arrest her!”
Lorelei stared at Eason in disbelief.
“Eason, I only did this for you.”
Eason stepped back, trying to distance himself from her.
“I never told you to do that. Stop making things up!”

Chapter 5
Unfortunately for him, not only did he fail to stop her–he actively held me back and refused to let me stop her.
He was also an accomplice.
