Chapter 155
Taylor, a man nearing fifty, fished with embarrassment. After holding back for a long moment, he teared up a little and said, “I’m sorry, Whit. I should have come sooner.”
Whitney shook her head and said, “You’re not late at all.”
They found a spot to sit. Whitney, thinking about the estrangement between her mom and her family, told Taylor about the diary.
Taylor’s teary eyes grew even redder.
In the coffee shop, as a staff member mopped the floor, he saw the mature, refined man tearing up, wiping his nose and eyes.
“It’s my fault. I came too late. Diana, I should have come sooner!” Taylor said, his voice trembling.
Whitney handed him a paper napkin, not sure what to say.
After about fifteen minutes, Taylor finally managed to calm down.
“Whit, do you blame me? Honestly, your dad was so angry at me that he collapsed,” he said, his voice thick with guilt.
“You have no idea how far your dad went. Your mom’s death… it was all because of him…” his voice faltered.
“I know,” Whitney said, her calm eyes locked on him. “Uncle Taylor, I know everything.”
So of course, she couldn’t blame him.
Taylor wiped his face, his eyes finally clearing. “Whit, we knew your mom was getting married in the country. My dad, your grandpa, and your grandma wanted to be there for her, even though they weren’t exactly fans of Samuel. Still, they wanted to stand by their daughter.”
“But then something happened. Starting with your grandpa, our family had moved overseas. But more than twenty years ago, we crossed someone way out of our league. Your grandpa got framed and thrown in jail. Your grandma fell sick and never got better. Everything at home just fell apart.”
“Your grandpa begged us not to reach out to your mom, worried our mess would drag her down. It wasn’t until the last couple of years that things finally calmed down. But your grandpa spent twenty years behind bars. When he got out, his health was shot.
“Your grandma was in a coma for twenty years before she who could’ve guessed…”
finally passed. After her funeral, we came to find your mother, but
Who could’ve guessed the daughter would die before her parents.
Regret filled Taylor’s voice. “Whit, I went to your mom’s grave that day. I just hope Diana doesn’t blame us. We never forgot her. We just didn’t have a choice.”
Whitney felt a pang in her chest, unable to hold back a sigh.
Who the hell did the Sherman family mess with to get Grandpa locked up for twenty years? Whit couldn’t help but wonder.
“Uncle Taylor, how’s Grandpa doing now?” Whitney asked.
Taylor let out a heavy sigh. “Not good. After your grandma passed, he’s been bedridden ever since.

aylor had actually returned from over seas, hoping to bring his sister Diana back with him. last time.
But nobody expected that Diana would end up passing away before him.
Taylor was about to head back overseas in a few days. His younger brother called and said their dad was so out of it from illness, and he kept calling out Diana’s name in his sleep
Whitney sighed and said, “Uncle Taylor, is there anything you need me to do?”
She hesitated, unsure if telling Grandpa about Mom’s death would be too much for him to handle. Maybe it’d be blow for someone so weak.
Taylor pursed his lips and said, “Whit, I still hope you can come back with me. You look a lot like your mom With Dad being so out of it, if you say you’reiher, he probably won’t be able to tell the difference”
“Okay.” Whitney said. “But I’ll need to talk to my husband first.”
Taylor frowned, a bit worried. ‘Is Whit really scared of her husband too?” he wondered
Afraid she might end up like her mom, he said seriously, “Listen, Whit, is that man treating you right? He’s way older than you, and I know what you’ve been through. If anyone’s making things hard for you, I’m here and I can protect you.”
Whitney couldn’t help feeling speechless.
“Uncle Taylor, you don’t seriously think Klein forced me to marry him, do you?” she said.
Taylor raised his eyebrows and said, “What else am I supposed to think? He’s seven years older than you? Why would you marry a guy like that? Besides, he’s your ex-fiancé’s uncle. Seriously, isn’t he just using his position to bully you?”
Whitney chuckled and patiently explained, “He’s actually really good to me. None of that crazy soap opera stuff. Uncle Taylor. Honestly, I’m the one who lucked out here.”
“Really?” Taylor said, still unconvinced.
“Yes,” Whitney replied, her tone unwavering.
The vibration of her phone in her bag interrupted their conversation. Whitney fished it out and picked it up. “Hey “Marco said he couldn’t find you. Where are you? Did something happen Klein asked, his voice tight with concern.
Klein was beside himself with worry just moments ago, making a silent vow to himself that from now on, he’d personally pick her up whenever she went out at night.
Whitney smiled and said, “Sorry, I forgot to let Marco know. I’m with my uncle right now.”
Klein raised his eyebrows. “He found you?” he said.
“Yeah,” Whitney replied.
Not only did he find me, he even badmouthed you, Whitney grumbled secretly
“Text me the address. I’ll be right there.” Klein said.
Less than fifteen minutes later, Klein walked into the coffee shop. his presence cool and commanding

ice-over.
‘Decent enough, I guess. At least he doesn’t look out of place next to Whit, he concluded.
But he’s way too shrewd. Look at those sharp eyes. Feels like he’s analyzing me he grumbled.
Taylor let out a soft snort and said, “Whit, why don’t you introduce us?”
Whitney spoke up, “Klein, this is my uncle. He was at our wedding, the bank card was from him.”
Klein stood up politely and said, “Hello, Uncle Taylor.”
Taylor let out a cold snort and said, “Hello.”
