Chapter 156
In the car, Whitney was still sing to process everything that had happened today.
“Klein, would you come over to my place tonight?” she asked.
Her mom’s diary was in her apartment.
Klein nodded slightly and said, “Whatever you want.”
He knew she needed some time to sort things out.
When Whitney got back to her apartment, she shut herself in her bedroom.
She sat down at her desk and quietly opened her mom’s diary.
[Taylor, I had steak today at this place, and it tasted just like the chef’s back home. I wonder how Mom, Dad, and you are doing. I miss you all so much, but I’m too scared to reach out.]
[I wonder if our brother’s married yet. He’s always been a loner, kind of proud and distant, but he can’t stay single forever. Mom, are you still stressing about his marriage?]
[Dad, turns out some things that look perfect are just fake. That woman called me today. She doesn’t care that I know. She’s sure I won’t have the guts to leave. I can’t sleep at night, but Whit is only one year old. Once she’s a little older, I’ll come back to you, okay?]
Whitney took a deep breath, fighting back her tears.
‘So I really was your burden, Mom,’ Whitney thought to herself.
The door was knocked.
Klein knocked on the door. Whitney quickly wiped her eyes, straightened up, and went to open it.
He was holding his phone. The moment he saw her, he caught the glimmer of tears in her eyes.
“Were you crying?” Klein stepped forward, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her closer.
“No, I just read my mom’s diary. It just hurts a bit. She deserved so much more, that’s all,” Whitney said softly

up differently for
If her mom hadn’t given birth to her, she was sue her mom would’ve found the courage to leave. She’d have run back to the only place she felt safe, and gotten away froin this cage of marriage. The thought broke her heart.
Klein looked at her slender, fair-skinned neck with deep eyes, and suddenly leaned in and playfully nipped at it.
“Ah!” Whitney yelped in surprise.
Whitney frowned, “Klein, what was that for? Why’d you bite me?”
Klein kept a straight face and said, “Wanted to see if you’d feel guilty!”
“Don’t make up

stuff that never happened. If you weren’t around, what, you want me to spend my whole life with just my right hand?” Klein teased.

Whitney’s sadness vanished in an instant under Klein’s cocky, playful gaze.
She gave him a gentle shove and said, “Alright, I’m going to take a shower.”
That was when Klein remembered why he’d knocked in the first place. “Baby, how do you usually order delivery around here? I want to get a few things.”
“Here, just install this app, then add your address and phone number. After that, you can order whatever you want,” Whitney explained.
After showing him, Whitney asked with a curious smile, “So, what else do you need? Hungry? I can whip up something for you if you want.”
“Yeah, I’m a bit hungry,” Klein said, blinking. “It’s fine. I’ll order myself. You go take your shower. I need to pick up some toiletries too.”
Maybe it was because Klein sounded so serious that Whitney didn’t notice the ‘slyness flickering in his eyes.
About an hour later, Klein came in carrying a big bag.
Whitney was in the bathroom, blow-drying her hair. Her apartment only had one bathroom.
The noisy hair dryer made her cheeks flush. “Klein, hang on a minute. Let me finish up before you come in to shower.”
Klein took out a black package from the plastic bag and set it on the bathroom counter. “Hey baby, I bought you some pajamas. Try them on tonight, okay?”
Whitney raised her eyebrows. “I already have pajamas. Why would I wear these?”
“Just try it on, baby,” Klein urged with a grin.
Whitney set down the hair dryer and, half-skeptical, opened the package. The moment she saw the outfit inside, she instantly blushed.
