Skipped At The Altar, Taken By His Uncle novel Chapter 188

Chapter 188

Lena was sitting in the passenger seat, staring out the window, lost in her own thoughts. Dustin was driving, glanci

her, curious about what was on her mind.

“What’s wrong? Didn’t you enjoy dinner at home today?” he asked.

Lena shook her head and said. “It’s not that I’m unhappy. I’m just annoyed with Emily. Hey, do you think when a fa girl suddenly goes quiet, it’s because she’s feeling guilty?”

Dustin reached over and gently messed up her hair. “Come on, don’t stress yourself out. Your due date’s coming up just relax, okay?”

Lena let out a little huff. As soon as they got home, she couldn’t wait to fill Whitney in.

Whitney was busy looking things up online. After hearing Lena’s story, she agreed. Emily was acting way too quiet. Normally, whenever Lena was there for dinner, Emily would find a way to throw in a few snide remarks.

“Got it, Lena. I’ll look into it. Thanks for standing up for me today,” Whitney said.

“You’re welcome. Seriously, Aunt Sabrina is driving me nuts. I guess she’s having some kind of midlife crisis or somet Lena grumbled.

Whitney snickered. “Maybe. But try not to give her such a hard time, okay? Grandpa doesn’t like seeing you two go at i “Not a chance! If she says something out of line, I’m calling her out. Don’t worry, Whit, if you can’t say it, I will! Anyway Uncle George wasn’t even around today,” Lena said.

After hanging up, Whitney found herself thinking about Emily again.

Emily had only just gotten back to the country and had met Tina just once. Was her influence really that strong? Did she actually egg Tina on to do something so extreme, or at least stir things up when the suicide happened?

Whitney spent the whole night digging into the Boone family’s background.

It was already ten o’clock, and she was still holed up in the study. Just as Klein was about to come in and drag her off to be Whitney’s phone rang. It was Riley,

“Hey, are you still up? Hope I’m not calling too late,” Riley said, her voice cheerful.

Whitney smiled. “Yeah, I’m still awake, Riley. Is it about something important?”

Yeah. I heard from Ivan today about your situation I know you’re planning to sue for defamation and clear your name 1 happen to have some free time, so I can represent you in court if you don’t mind,” Riley offered

Whitney was surprised “Of course I don’t mind! Riley, thank you so much for being willing to help me

Whitney could totally defend herself, but it was always nice to have someone else around to help keep things straight.

Just in case she got confused and missed something important.

“Sounds good, that’s all for now. We’ll go over the details at the firm tomorrow! Kiley said

Klein leaned against the door, watching her finish the call “Ready for bed now, honey?”

Whitney rolled her eyes at him. “Just so you know tonight we’re actually sleeping. No messing around.”

Klein raised his eyebrows, leaned in and kissed her on the lips. “I’m your husband, not a monster.”

Whitney spaced out for a second.

‘Monster,’ she muttered to herself.

‘Wait, the Boone family already has their own monster,’ she corrected herself.

Whitney suddenly threw herself onto Klein, wrapping her arms around his neck. “Baby, can you help me check out everything Kane Boone’s been up to since Tina came back? Please?”

‘Kane Boone?’ Klein repeated.

‘Isn’t that the bastard who tried to drug Whitney last time?’ he thought.

When Whitney got to the office, the info Klein had someone look into was already sitting in her inbox.

She grabbed her laptop and headed straight to Riley’s office.

Riley smiled and said, “You look pretty pleased. Got it all sorted?”

Whitney shook her head and said, “I’ve only solved half the puzzle. I’ve got a pretty good idea why Tina jumped, thougl

“Riley, look at this. Ever since Tina came back to the city, she’s been staying at her cousin Kane Boone’s villa.” Whitney sa pulling up the info on her laptop.

“There was one time they went to William’s place for dinner, but the security footage shows Tina looking kind of spaced when she left that day,” she continued.

“The day after Tina jumped, Kane left the country, and the villa was sold off in a hurry for a very low price. Kane’s got a shady history. He once even tried to assault me once, so…” Whitney said.

Whitney tapped the desk, and Riley caught on immediately. “So, you think the person behind Tina’s suicide might be her

cousin Kane?”

“That’s possible,” Whitney replied.

Riley frowned. “But that suicide note she left was very super direct, every word pointed right at you. That’s why you got dragged so hard online.”

Thad the note tested. The handwriting’s legit, but I never actually saw the original note that blew up on the internet. Whitney said

Once it was ruled a sun ide, the Boone family had taken all her stuff.

:

So the original note probably got destroyed

Since it wasn’t a crimal case, the police couldn’t hold onto the original

Riley drummed her fingers on the desk. “You said Tina was trapped in that villa So where do you think she actually wrote

the suicide note?”

Whitney pulled up the picture of the note agam Riley, this paper isn’t just plain white. Looks like there’s some kind of logo

on it.”

“Hello, miss. Is there anything I can help you with?” the clerk asked.
