Skipped At The Altar, Taken By His Uncle novel Chapter 216

Chapter 216

When Whitney told Townsend that Klein wanted to come, he was absolutely thrilled.

He even faised the standard of the restaurant, booking an even more upscale place.

Valerie couldn’t help but comment. Looks like Mr. Barton is really pulling out all the stops this time. With all these tatges, this is going to cost a fortune.”

Ivan snorted, Please, that’s nothing to him. That old fox is way too shrewd for that.

Klein said he’d be running late and told Whitney and the others to start eating first.

Townsend had actually planned to wait for Klein before kicking things off. But after thinking about it, he figured that’d be way too obvious and probably awkward for Whitney.

Whitney sat next to Valerie. Since Lucas was her assistant, he ended up sitting on her other side.

Ivan and the others naturally took the seats next to Townsend.

Whitney had wanted to save a seat for Klein, but she just couldn’t bring herself to say it out loud.

After thinking it over, she could only quietly ask her best friend Valerie if she could move over and sit next to Frank later.

[I’m here. Which private room are you guys in?] Klein texted.

Whitney stood up and said, Valerie, can you scoot over and sit next to Frank? My husband’s here.

Everyone knew exactly who Whitney’s husband was.

Oh, sure, no problem,Valerie replied.

Lucas’s eyes flickered. Valerie, is Whitney’s husband coming?

Yeah, that’s right,Valerie replied offhandedly.

Just as Whitney turned the corner, she caught sight of Klein in a black shirt walking toward her.

When Klein was wearing a suit, he always looked so refined and elegant.

But in just a black shirt, especially with the top buttons undone to his collarbone, he had this irresistible almost untouchable allure.

With no one else around, Whitney couldn’t resist giving his firm butt a playful smack. Looking this good. Who are you trying to impress now?

Klein swallowed, his eyes smoldering as he pinched her earlobe. If I can impress you, that’s all I care about

Whitney took his arm and walked back into the private room with him. As soon as they stepped in, everyone got to their

feet.

Mr. Harris!everyone called out.

Klein waved his hand and said, Sit down, please. Sorry, I’m just here to mooch a meal tonight

Whitney pursed her lips.

With the way he carries himself, it’s like this whole dinner is his welcome party, she thought.

Chapter 216

Man, he’s really stealing the show!

Townsend quickly stood up and hurried over. Mr. Harris, no need to be so formal. Come on in, have a seat.

Klein glanced around the room. When he spotted Whitney’s bag hanging on the back of a chair, he instantly knew where she was sitting.

He said with a warm smile. No need to trouble yourselves, Mr. Barton. Go ahead, don’t mind me. I’ll just sit next to my

wife.

Whitney couldn’t help but blush when Klein called her my wifein front of everyone.

Come on, sit down already.” Whitney urged, tugging Klein into the seat beside her. Valerie had shifted oyer to make space for them.

Things finally settled down and the dinner went back to its usual vibe.

But wherever Klein was, he always ended up being the center of attention.

Townsend kept steering the conversation toward him, and Whitney had gotten used to him being in the spotlight.

All the while, Klein was busy socializing, but he still made sure Whitney’s plate was always full.

Suddenly, two forks touched the same piece of fish.

Lucas shot Klein a calm look and said, Go ahead, Mr. Harris. You can have this one.”

I can have this one?Klein thought, a bit taken aback.

Klein’s temples throbbed.

What’s wrong with this boy?Klein wondered.

Klein could spot the ambition in Lucas’s eyes right away, because men could always tell.

Whitney didn’t notice a thing. She was totally focused on her plate, happily enjoying her food without a care in the world.

Klein pursed his lips and said, Mr. Barton, why not order another plate of that fish? Looks like your new associate at the firm is really into it.”

Townsend blinked, and then quickly called over a waiter to get another plate.

Townsend chuckled, Mr. Harris, you’re always so considerate. Lucas, you should thank Mr. Harris! If you liked it so much. you should’ve spoken up earlier!

Lucas forced a smile and said, Thanks.

It was only now that Whitney finally noticed something was off.

She bit her lips, glanced around, and shot Klein a message, looking thoughtful.

[What’s going on? Do you seriously have it out for Lucas?]

Lucas had been keeping a close eye on them. When Klein’s phone buzzed, and then Whitney’s phone buzzed right after, he could totally tell what was going on.

Anyone with half a brain could see they were texting each other.

His eyes darkened, and nobody could guess what he was thinking.

Chapter 216

Whitney was too busy to pay him any mind. She just pulled up her messages with Klein.

{Something’s off about your assistant. He’s got his sights set on you!] Klein texted.

Her fingers froze for a moment. She snuck a glance at Lucas. When he caught her looking, he flashed her a cool, almost cocky smile.

Seriously? He just got here. No way he’s already got his eye on me. Whitney thought, feeling doubtful.

[Come on, you’re imagining things. He’s just a newbie, only been here a couple days.]

[You really don’t trust me, do you?] Klein texted, sounding a bit put out.

Whitney chuckled, replying. [I do! Of course I trust you!]

[If it bugs you that much, I’ll talk to Townsend tomorrow and get someone else to show him the ropes. Sounds good, baby:]

Klein was genuinely delighted.

He put his phone away and patiently started deboning the fish for Whitney.

Everyone at the table shot Whitney envious looks.

A highpowered CEO like Mr. Harris was sitting there, carefully picking out fish bones for her. Whitney was indeed spoiled

rotten.

By the end of dinner, Klein kept pouring drinks for Lucas, making him knock back several rounds, while Klein’s own glass was just water the whole time.

Lucas didn’t dare say no.

When Lucas was finally tipsy, Klein wrapped his arm around Whitney’s waist, waved goodbye, and strolled out with her. Valerie, who was sitting closest, couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Lucas. You okay? Want me to call you a cab?

Lucas gave her a gentle smile. Thanks, Valerie. If you could call me a cab, that’d be great.

Valerie found herself blush a little when Lucas stared at her with those big, sparkling eyes.

Okay,” she murmured.
