Chapter 35
Standing by the windowsill, Whitney stared down at the two bodyguards outside, her face dark with frustration.
She called Samuel, but her deadbeat dad actually hung up on her.
Unwilling to give up, Whitney dialed April next. Unfortunately, no answer.

Through the closed door, Whitney heard Tina’s voice. “Whit, stop making useless calls. Dad already said he won’t let you
out.
“What’s so great about Carter? Do you really think that after breaking up with him, you’ll find a better Klein to marry? I’m telling you, you should be grateful instead of ending up with nothing.”
Whitney never wasted words on fools.
She’d long grown tired of Tina’s foolish babble.
Hearing no response, Tina assumed Whitney had cried herself out, smirked triumphantly, and left the room.
‘It’s such a nice day, perfect for calling up my friends for a little get–together,‘ Tina wondered. ‘Mom is right.
‘Instead of wrecking Whitney and Carter’s wedding, it’s way more satisfying to watch Whitney marry someone who doesn’t even like her.’

Carter brought Emily to see Sabrina, but Sabrina just sent them packing.
“Quit worrying about Emily and focus on your wedding in three days,” Sabrina said firmly.
Emily looked at Carter, worry written all over her face. “Carter?”
“It’s fine,” Carter reassured her. “Tomorrow I’m going to see Uncle Klein. I don’t believe even Uncle Klein is siding with him.”
Emily hesitated briefly. “Carter, but Uncle Klein doesn’t seem to like me very much.”
“Milly, don’t think like that,” Carter comforted her. “Uncle Klein might act distant with everyone, but he’s the one in our family who always sticks to the rules.”
In this family, aside from Grandpa, the only person Carter feared was Klein.
Wherever Klein was, the dinner table always became perfectly orderly, because he often said, “Don’t talk while eating or sleeping.”
Though only seven years apart in age, Carter felt Klein was at least seventeen years older in seriousness.
Carter once complained about why Grandpa favored Uncle Klein, naming him heir to the entire group, while his own dad, despite years of hard work, never earned Grandpa’s favor.
After hearing this, his father locked him in a room and made him stand for an hour as punishment.
“Cut out those thoughts you shouldn’t have. Don’t waste your sympathy on me. If you’ve got the guts, wait till you’re grown and fight for it yourself. But as long as I’m here, I won’t stand for it,” his dad snapped.
After that, Carter never dared say such things again, not even a mutter.

And he understood that his father respected Klein.
As for Carter trying to fight for it himself, he didn’t have the nerve.
Emily didn’t realize how much Carter trusted Klein. She pursed her lips slightly. “Maybe I’m just
overthinking.”

“Yes, that’s right. Tomorrow I’ll go to the headquarters to find Uncle Klein. He’ll convince my dad,” he promised.
At nine o’clock, the two left the Harris Manor but still didn’t see a trace of Whitney.
Carter sneered.
‘See? Was it really that hard for her to admit she just wanted to marry me?‘ Carter thought.
Just thinking about that slap from this morning made his blood boil.

Samuel had a social engagement but knew about his wife’s plan.
He stood in the corridor, calling Laura. “That girl stopped causing trouble yet?”
Laura leaned against the headboard, smiling. “Don’t worry. I gave her some medicine in the car. It’s just to make her obedient. She probably can’t walk more than a few steps right now. Her legs are still weak
“On the wedding day, I’ll adjust the dosage to something milder. Samuel, don’t worry. The wedding will definitely happen as planned.”
“Mr. Moore, what are you doing hiding out here in the breeze?” a voice sounded.
Laura’s expression darkened abruptly when she heard a coquettish female voice over the line. “Where are you entertaining tonight?”
Samuel cleared his throat. “At the Royal Crest Club. That was just a waitress who passed by. Laura, don’t overthink it.”
Without another word, he hung up.
Laura, who had been feeling sleepy, found herself wide awake now.
Glancing at the time on her phone, she made a call. “Is Mr. Moore at the Royal Crest Club right now?”
Whatever she was told, Laura’s face grew colder as she went to the closet to change into her going–out clothes again.
Her car happened to brush past Klein’s Maybach.
Klein’s car pulled up at the Moore residence.
He looked at the tightly shut front door and dialed Whitney’s number.
Whitney had just heard a car leaving the garage.
Now, with only herself and a bunch of servants and bodyguards inside the villa, it was the perfect chance to make a run for
At that moment, the phone rang.

But Whitney froze, staring at the rabbit avatar with red eyes.
‘Why him?‘ she thought, a bit thrown.
“Hello, Mr. Harris.” Whitney picked up.
“I’m outside your place. Which room are you in?” Klein said.
