Marco stepped out of the car, and his heart skipped when he saw Carter’s face.
Klein’s earlier command to “ram it had shocked him to his core.

Sure, Klein had quickly clarified multiple times to just bump the car body, don’t hurt anyone inside, just a gentle tap.
But Marco was forty–something years old, and he’d never done anything like this before, so his nerves were still jangling.
Klein climbed out of the car at his own leisurely pace and walked up to Carter’s vehicle with perfect composure. He raised an eyebrow, looking genuinely surprised. “Carter? Is that you?”
Marco stood behind him, and his mouth twitched. ‘Jesus, Mr. Harris could win an Oscar,’ he thought.
Carter had been ready to explode just seconds ago, but now the fire went out instantly. Still, his tone carried a hint of complaint. “Uncle Klein, did your driver forget his glasses today? The road’s this wide and he still managed to hit me?”
“I’m so sorry, my eyesight’s not what it used to be. Please don’t be upset–are you hurt anywhere?” Marco rushed to apologize.
Klein shot Marco a displeased look. “What’s wrong with you? I’m docking your pay for today.”
Then Marco watched as Klein turned to Carter with a face full of concern. “Carter, let me call 911 for you. Don’t worry about the medical bills. I’ll cover everything. You need a full examination, and we can’t take any chances.”
He continued. “Car accidents are nothing to mess around with. If something’s wrong and I didn’t get you checked out. George would have my head.”
Carter laughed awkwardly. “Uncle Klein, I’m fine. The car just got a little dented, that’s all. We don’t need to call 911, do we?”
“Of course we do.” Klein pulled out his elder authority card. “You young people need to take your health seriously. You’re going to the hospital.”
He turned to Marco. “Marco, call 911. Now.”
Marco, still processing his “pay dock,” responded with mixed feelings. “Yes, Mr. Harris. Right away.”
He thought, Mr. Harris is absolutely ruthless.
Ten minutes later, the ambulance arrived and whisked Carter away. Klein followed along with a worried look on his face, like he couldn’t quite let it go.
Lying in the ambulance, Carter couldn’t help but feel a little moved. Klein always seemed so cold and distant, but he never expected him to care this much Maybe he’d been too quick to judge Klein before.
The ER doctor looked at the incoming patient and frowned. “What’s going on with this one?”
The paramedic gave his report. “Car accident victim. Vitals are normal, blood pressure’s fine, no visible injuries, and all his
bones are intact. No fractures.”
The ER doctor blinked. “Then?”
‘What am I supposed to do with this?‘ he thought. ‘Did he just want a ride in an ambulance for fun?‘

Carter’s face flushed with embarrassment. He didn’t know why Klein insisted on bringing him here either. The doctor’s questioning stare made his cheeks burn even hotter.
The paramedic kept his thoughts to himself. He had no idea what was going on, but Klein had called and paid for the
ambulance.
Klein stepped forward. “Doctor, my car accidentally hit my nephew. Could you order a brain MRI for him? I think it’s better to do a full checkup just to be safe.”
The ER doctor raised an eyebrow and looked at the patient. “Did it hit your head?”
Carter pressed his lips together, feeling awkward. “No, it didn’t.”
“Even if it didn’t hit him directly, he might not have noticed something wrong,” Klein said. “Doctor, I’m his uncle. Please just do the scan. I won’t feel at ease unless I’m sure his head is fine.”
The ER doctor couldn’t help but roll his eyes.
These two both have something wrong with their heads,‘ he thought.
He printed out the order form with barely concealed irritation and shoved it toward them. “Fine. Go left out the door and pay for it.”
And so, thanks to Klein’s insistence, Carter was compelled to undergo a head scan.
“Uncle Klein, isn’t this a bit much?” Carter couldn’t help but ask, feeling overwhelmed by all the fuss.
Klein deliberately kept his expression stern. “How is this too much? You’re George’s only son, so how could taking care of you be too much?”
He added. “Alright, Carter, don’t worry about anything else. Just go get in line.”
Carter had no choice but to take the form and join the queue. He’d been planning to go see Whitney, but after all this chaos. he wasn’t in the mood anymore.
Something occurred to him, and he turned back with a puzzled look. “Uncle Klein, why were you on Pine Street earher? Were you there for business?”
Klein smiled slightly. “I had a dinner meeting today, and when it ended I was heading home. Marco wasn’t paying attention to the GPS and took a wrong turn. I called him out on it, and he got flustered and accidentally hit your car.”
So that’s what happened. Carter’s suspicions vanished instantly.
Klein said, “Go on now, before the doctor’s shift ends.”
Klein watched Carter’s retreating figure, then pulled out his phone and made a call
A soft fernale voice came through the receiver, sounding a bit surprised “Uncle Klein?”
“Emily, do you have time to come to Sunrise Hospital Emergency? Carter was just in a car accident, and if you’re free, you
should come look after him.”
“A car accident?” Emily gasped. “Is Carter okay?”
“Nothing serious. He’s waiting in line for a brain MRI right now. My driver wasn’t watching the road carefully and ended up on Pine Street by mistake, then turned without looking and hit Carter’s car. Don’t worry too much, and just take a cab when
you come.”

‘Pine Street? Emily’s expression darkened. She thought, ‘But when I called Carter earlier, didn’t he say he was working late at
the office?‘
She couldn’t be mistaken. Pine Street was near Whitney’s place. She said, “Alright, Uncle Klein, I understand. I’ll be right
there.”
After hanging up, Klein allowed himself a satisfied smile. ‘Where else would you find an uncle as thoughtful as me?‘
Emily showed up fast. Carter had just finished his MRI when she walked in.
“Carter, I was worried about you, so I asked Milly to come,” Klein said. “I figured you’d find me annoying if I hung around the hospital, so I called her to take care of you instead. Let me know when the results come in, okay? Don’t leave me worrying.”
Marco stood off to the side, pinching his thigh to keep from laughing.
Emily turned to Klein. “Uncle Klein, don’t worry. I’m here at the hospital, and I’ll make sure Carter’s taken care of.”
Klein finally left, satisfied with himself and his masterful performance.
The moment he stepped outside the hospital, he shot Marco an approving look. “You did good work today. I’m tripling your salary this month as a bonus. Nice job.”
Marco let out a long breath. “Thank you, Mr. Harris. I’m glad you’re pleased.”
“Oh, and you can head out. I’ve got something else to handle. Klein sent Marco on his way, then turned around and headed back to the emergency department.
Half an hour later. Whitney had just gotten out of the shower.
