Chapter 83
“Mr. Harris, Hector from Prime Bridge Law Firm told me that Ms. Moore has been suspended,” the assistant reported.
George’s hand paused as he was signing a document, and then he replied, “Okay.”
It wasn’t that he was trying to make things hard for a junior. It was just better if Whitney stopped showing up around his son from now on.
With her suspended, she wouldn’t be hanging around the company as much, which meant she’d be less likely to run into Carter.
He had no intention of seeing Whitney again until Carter’s wedding at least.
Whitney didn’t have any other cases to handle, except for the merger deal with Harris Group.
After handing over the files for her part of the merger to Frank, she headed home.
Klein was away on a business trip and wouldn’t be back for a week.
Whitney knew the code to the villa, so after contacting the butler, she went over and added some soft furnishings.
After she finished tidying up, the once cold and impersonal villa finally felt a little more like a home.
Martin, the butler, watched everything with a smile.
He knew she was going to be Mrs. Harris one day, and she was the first woman Klein had ever brought home.
She was the very first woman to ever be by Klein’s side.
Martin had thought Klein would spend his whole life alone.
If Mrs. Harris were still alive, she would have been truly relieved to see this.
After Whitney left, Martin snapped a photo of how the villa looked now and sent it to Klem.
“Mr. Harris, Ms. Moore just stopped by the villa and added a few things,” Martin texted.
Klein didn’t see the message on his personal phone until three hours later
There was a time difference between here and home, and he had just woken up, getting ready to fly to the next city.
“Did she stop by during the day?” Klein asked.
‘It’s not even the weekend. How come she was available during the day? Klein wondered.
“Yes, Ms. Moore came during the day. She said she’d come by whenever she was free these days.” Martin

replied.
Klein replied calmly, “Let me know next time she comes.”
Far away in another country, Klein found himself missing her.

Calvin was a little startled to get a call from Klein, his boss who was away on a business trip, especially so late at night.
“Mr. Harris, good evening,” Calvin said.
“Calvin, how’s the merger deal coming along?” Klein asked.
“It’s going smoothly,” Calvin said, a little confused at first, but he quickly realized what Klein was actually getting at.
“No worries, Mr. Harris. PrimeBridge Law Firm’s been on top of things, and the collaboration’s been smooth. Ms. Moore’s been especially great to work with,” Calvin added.
Klein rolled his eyes and said, “That’s not what I asked.”
But deep down, he felt a lot more relieved.
“Oh, sorry, Mr. Harris, I know I can get a bit chatty. I just wanted to keep you fully in the loop about the project. Next time, I’ll stick to the highlights,” Calvin said.
“It’s fine. No need to change. Be as chatty as you like,” Klein replied.
Calvin didn’t call him out. He knew he’d read Klein like a book.
Klein was a man. Of course Calvin knew what was really going on.

‘Look at Mr. Harris, acting all curious and happy,’ Calvin thought.
But Calvin had no idea that, due to a missed message, he’d just let a perfect chance to take credit slip right through his fingers!

The copyright infringement case between Jay and Starwave Entertainment had already been fled and was just waiting for its day in court.
Meanwhile, Emily’s album was tanking, and she was getting swarmed by haters online. She didn’t dare to open up her comments section.
In her mind, she blamed Whitney for all of it.
But at least the news that Whitney had been suspended from her law firm gave her some relief.
Her father’s assistant Nolan Lewis quietly told her.

“Don’t worry, Miss Emily. Mr. Harris has always been on your side. He truly cares about you,” Nolan reassured her.
Emily smiled bitterly. She knew better than anyone whether he really cared about her or not.
If he really cared about her, he wouldn’t have told her to stay away from the entertainment industry.
She liked Carter a lot, but she didn’t want to stay at home. She wanted to be seen, to be loved by more people.
But just one offhand comment from her adoptive father was enough to shoot down everything she ever wanted.
Sabrina smiled and said, “Emily, put your phone down. Let’s go try on some wedding dresses.”
“Still scrolling through all that drama online? Why bother with it? Isn’t it enough to just be the Harris family’s daughter–in–law?” Sabrina said.
Fortunately they’d managed to keep all the rumors online from George. Otherwise, Emily would have gotten another lecture from her grandfather.
Sabrina couldn’t help but feel helpless. No matter what Emily did, George was always critical, nowhere near as pleased with her as he was with Whitney.
But Emily was her daughter, the one she’d spoiled and raised. If George wouldn’t dote on her, then Sabrina would just have to make up for it.
“I’m not looking anymore. Mom, let’s go,” Emily replied, already hatching a plan in her mind.
Three days later, Whitney came across Emily’s wedding photos plastered all over the internet.
Most people thought this was just a PR stunt to fix Emily’s reputation, but only Whitney knew the real story Those were the exact same wedding gowns she’d picked out for her wedding with Carter.
Whitney had modeled that exact same dress herself. The two gowns were practically identical
Emily was showing off, even if it was just through the screen.
Whitney smirked, hopped in her car and drove straight to the cemetery.
Time slipped by, and before Whitney knew it, the memorial day had come
She cradled a bouquet of flowers, scattering the petals gently over her grandmother’s tombstone
“Grandma, it’s me. I promise I will take care of myself,” Whitney murmured.
“You don’t have to worry about me anymore, Grandma. I’ll be okay,” she whispered

On the memorial day, Samuel showed up as expected. Laura and Tina were there too.
Tina watched Whitney standing in front of the tombstone, with a smirk.
Who is she trying to fool, pretending to be so sad?‘ Tina scoffed.

After she put on a show of paying her respects, she complained about the chill and said she was heading down the hill first.
“Dad, you guys head down first. I want to spend a little more time with Grandma,” Whitney said, her voice soft.
