As Samuel and his family made their way down the hill, it started drizzling.
“Ugh, this is so annoying! Why did it suddenly start raining?” Tina complained.
“It’s just a drizzle, Tina. Hang in there. We’ll be at the rest area soon,” Laura said gently, trying to comfort her daughter.
Samuel looked at his impatient daughter and felt a pang of disappointment.
‘How did Laura and I, with our good personalities, end up with such a spoiled and impatient daughter” Samuel thought.
‘She doesn’t act like a proper young lady at all,’ Samuel thought.
He was feeling a bit annoyed, but froze when he spotted a figure dressed in black in the distance.
The man was tall in a black suit and holding a black umbrella, heading uphill.
He moved fast, and after just a few steps, he was nothing but a tiny black dot in the distance.
Samuel found that silhouette familiar, but just as he was trying to figure it out, Laura snapped him out of it
“Samuel, hurry up. We don’t want to catch a cold in the rain,” Laura said.
Samuel finally tore his eyes away and got in the car.
“Dad, are we seriously waiting for Whit?” Tina grumbled.
Samuel shot her a cold look and said, “If you don’t want to wait, you can head back on your own.
They’d only driven in one car. How was Whit supposed to get home on her own?
‘Am I supposed to walk home?‘ Tina thought, annoyed.
She huffed, turning her head away and pouting in the corner, stewing in her own frustration
Samuel couldn’t care less about Tina’s attitude right now. The road ahead led to a district where generations of the Moore family were laid to rest.
Samuel suddenly had a crazy hunch. He took his phone, eyes glued to the image of the man’s silhouette on
the screen.
‘If he just changed his clothes and hairstyle, isn’t that the same man in black I just saw? Samuel thought
‘Could that have been Klein I just bumped into?‘ Samuel wondered.
“Samuel, I brought some chicken soup. Want a taste?” Laura asked softly.

Samuel was grinning like a fool, totally spaced out.

Laura shot him a suspicious look. ‘Today’s the memorial day after his mother passed away. No way Samuel would be smiling like this on such a day,‘ she thought.
‘Even if he never really cared much for his mother, he always followed the family customs. What could possibly make him this happy?‘ Laura wondered.
“Samuel?” Laura called his name again.
Samuel snapped back to reality, quickly wiping the grin off his face, “Huh? What did you say?”
“It’s nothing. Are you alright, Samuel?” Laura asked, still looking puzzled.
“I’m perfectly fine. What could possibly be wrong? Stop worrying so much. And when you have time, make sure Tina learns some proper manners. I don’t want her making a scene at her wedding,” Samuel said.
Tina was left speechless.
‘Why is it always me?‘ Tina thought, annoyed.

The drizzle soon turned into a heavy rain, and Whitney, without an umbrella, felt her bangs getting drenched.
She lifted her handbag over her head, trying to block the rain.
On the mossy stone steps, a figure dressed in black broke through the rain, gradually coming into view
His tailored black suit shimmered with a chilly sheen in the misty rain.
His long, defined fingers gripped the umbrella handle, and behind the curtain of rain was a face, chiseled and cold, with long lashes that only made his aloofness more striking.
But when his cold eyes met Whitney’s, they instantly softened, turning gentle and tender
He raised the umbrella over her, sheltering her from the rain.
Klein said softly, “Sorry, my flight got delayed. I came late.”
Whitney’s long lashes fluttered. “How did you know I’d be here?” she asked.
Klein chuckled, “Before we get married, I think I should pay my respects to your grandmother first Isn’t that right?”
He placed the umbrella in her hand and said, “Hold this for me I’m going to pay my respects to your grandmother.”
Whitney watched Klein’s back in the rain. He murmured something under his breath, and then bowed deeply to her grandmother’s photo on the gravestone, showing his respect.

He straightened up and took the umbrella back from her. “Let’s go. We should head down the hill.”
Whitney looked up at him and asked, “Were you saying something to my grandma just now?”
Klein said with a chuckle, “I was just asking her if she’d let me marry her beloved granddaughter.”
Whitney raised her eyebrows and said, “And she actually answered you?”
“She did. Grandma said we should go get married tomorrow,” Klein replied.
Whitney’s lips twitched as she muttered under her breath, ‘Like you didn’t pick the date yourself. Now it’s Grandma’s idea?‘
Klein leaned in, his ear close to her lips, and said with a teasing smile on his face, “Hmm? What did you just say?”
“Nothing. Tomorrow it is, then. My dad and the others are still waiting for me at the foot of the hill. Are we going down together or splitting up?” Whitney said.
“I need to head back to Moore Manor to grab my family papers,” Klein said.
Klein shot her a teasing grin and said, “No need for any family papers to get married now. They just changed the policy yesterday.”
“Oh,” Whitney replied.
She’d almost forgotten about that.
“Maybe you should wait here for a bit, and I’ll go down first?” Whitney suggested, feeling a bit sheepish.
