After making their rounds and thanking the guests, Bennett and Yvonne left the reception. The hall was bustling and noisy, and with Yvonne pregnant, it was best to avoid any accidental bumps.
Bennett took Yvonne directly back to their home in Cherry Bay.
The house had been decorated for the occasion, but not fully renovated. They had avoided any new construction, concerned that the fumes might affect Yvonne and the baby. Instead, they had simply redecorated, swapping out the curtains, bedding, and wall hangings for deep, romantic hues and adding a few of their wedding photos in the living room.
Bennett had originally chosen this property as their marital home, so there was no need to move.
Besides, with Yvonne pregnant, it was better for her to stay in a comfortable and familiar place.
Though it was their wedding night, Yvonne’s pregnancy meant any real celebration was out of the question.
After they got home, Yvonne went straight to the bathroom to remove her makeup and shower before collapsing onto the bed.
“Tired?” Bennett sat on the edge of the bed, carefully blow-drying her hair for her.
“Mmm,” Yvonne murmured, her beautiful eyes half-closed, too exhausted to say much.
Her current body was already frail, and the pregnancy was only adding to the strain.
“A wedding like this… I used to be able to handle ten of these without breaking a sweat, but now one is enough to nearly kill me,” Yvonne lamented offhandedly.
Bennett’s hand, holding the blow-dryer, paused for a second. He then chuckled, “Are you saying you want to have another ten or so weddings?”
Yvonne realized her slip of the tongue and quickly corrected herself, “Even if I had a hundred weddings, they would all be with you. We could do it to collect more gifts.”
Bennett knew she was just trying to cover her tracks. He smiled and shook his head, turning off the blow-dryer and setting it aside. He then handed her a private checkbook.
“What’s this?” Yvonne asked, confused. She opened it, her eyes widening as she tried to count the zeros. “Where did all of this come from?”
She rolled over in bed, and a wave of drowsiness washed over her. Soon, she was fast asleep.
Meanwhile, back at the banquet hall, the Thompsons were just seeing off the last of their guests.
Although it was Bennett and Yvonne’s wedding, the busiest people had been Frank Thompson and Emma Moore.
From planning the wedding and coordinating with the event company to choosing the attire, decorating the venue, greeting guests, and now sending them off, Frank and Emma had been managing every single detail.
And the happy couple, Bennett and Yvonne, had left right after the ceremony, leaving the elderly pair to handle the rest of the hosting duties.
It felt as if the wedding had been for them.
Once the last guest had departed, Emma finally let out a long sigh of relief. “After a whole day of this madness, it’s finally over.”
