“Thank goodness we only had one son. If we had any more, this would have been the death of us,” Dana said, equally exhausted from helping Emma entertain the guests.
“Where’s Cynthia? I don’t think I’ve seen her for a while,” Emma asked, noticing that only Noah Thompson was by Dana’s side, with Cynthia Scott nowhere in sight.
“Cynthia found out she was pregnant just a few days ago. She came this morning for the ceremony and to help with the guests, but I sent her home to rest,” Dana said with a cheerful smile.
With Cynthia in the early stages of her pregnancy, and the wedding so crowded with people coming and going, she didn't want to risk any accidents.
“Cynthia’s pregnant too? That’s wonderful news! Bennett and Noah grew up together like brothers. Now their sons can grow up together, so they won’t be lonely,” Emma said.
“You keep saying ‘sons.’ What if they have girls? You won’t like them?” Dana teased.
“That little princess they brought into our family treats her pregnancy like she’s a queen giving birth to the heir apparent. I’ll be grateful if she just delivers the baby safely. I wouldn’t dare be picky about whether it’s a boy or a girl,” Emma retorted.
Unlike the elder Mr. Thompson, Emma held no old-fashioned ideas about preferring boys. In fact, she had always wanted a girl, and the daughter she had lost remained a deep wound in her heart.
After chatting a bit more, Emma and Dana went their separate ways.
Noah waited for the elders to leave before driving home.
When he arrived, he found Cynthia sitting on the living room sofa, reading a script. She was dressed in a comfortable cream-colored lounge set, her hair casually tied up in a messy bun. The scene was one of lazy, heartwarming domesticity.
As Noah changed his shoes in the entryway, a smile unconsciously spread across his lips. A home with Cynthia in it finally felt like the home he had always imagined.
“You’re back?” Cynthia heard the noise at the door and looked up from her script.
“Yeah,” Noah nodded. He took off his jacket, walked over to her, and leaned down naturally to press a kiss on her cheek.
Cynthia, having no pregnancy-related symptoms or food aversions, was not a picky eater and politely finished her entire meal.
After dinner, the housekeeper took care of the kitchen and dishes.
Cynthia went back to her script while Noah sat beside her, working on company matters on his laptop.
Cynthia was only halfway through the script when she heard the vibration of Noah's phone.
She glanced up and saw him pick up the phone. He looked at the screen and then, instinctively, looked at her.
Without him saying a word, Cynthia knew it had to be about the Whites and Nicola.
