Chapter 122 Warnings from All Sides
Even though Stefan understood how difficult it would be to convince Evan to return-especially after they had already cut ties – he still believed there was hope.
Evan had always been stubborn and proud, but this was life-or-death. As long as he chose his words carefully,, Stefan was sure Evan would return.
“Evan, they only know the drakeblood gemstone is fake-they still don’t have any proof that you swapped it! That’s why the Solberg name can still protect you. Hurry and change your last name back!” Stefan emphasized repeatedly how important it was for Evan to return and that only the Solbergs could shield him now.
“It’s fine, Mr. Solberg. I’m somewhere very safe right now,” Evan said, politely refusing as he glanced around Sean’s home with a faint smile. Cain couldn’t lay a hand on him here.
‘Somewhere safe?’ Stefan wondered, stumped. ‘At a time like this? What place could possibly be safer than ours? He’s just being stubborn. He simply doesn’t want to come back!’
“Evan, listen to me “Stefan tried to steady his voice and push on, but Evan ended the call before he could finish. Sensing something was off, the Laurent couple asked, “Evan, who was that?”
Evan smiled faintly. “I might be in trouble for a while.”
The mayor and his wife exploded the next second.
Sean slammed his palm on the table. “Who is it? Who dares pull something like this right under my nose? Do they think the law is just for show? Whoever wants to touch my future son-in-law will have to get through me first!”
Belinda raised the keys she was still holding, her expression fierce. They already treated Evan like a son-in-law, and it was practically guaranteed he would be family someday.
And now someone wanted to target him? Absolutely not. They would never allow it.
“I think the person going after Evan is the one who should be worried,” Estelle said lightly.
She had been watching him earlier and noticed that he had remained perfectly calm the entire time, not a hint of fear in his voice. Besides, who would be reckless enough to pick a fight with a geomancer? They’d have to be tired of living,
Just then, a knock came at the door, and a middle-aged man entered, dressed in a sharp suit, his demeanor somewhat similar to Sean’s.
“Mr. Cavendish? What brings you here?” Estelle asked, surprised
Evan recognized him, too-Zachariah Cavendish, the deputy mayor of Silverton.
Evan immediately bowed to him. Three years ago, the people who had stepped up to vouch for him had been Hugo and the deputy mayor standing before him. In truth, Zachariah had been the key reason Cain spared him, not Hugo.
“Hmm?” Zachariah looked at Evan, equally surprised, as if he hadn’t expected to see him here. Then he turned to Sean. “So you already know.”
“Know what?” Sean was still riding the earlier wave of anger and hadn’t caught up.
“The matter with the drakeblood gemstone…”

Zachariah explained the appraisal result. When his gaze landed on Evan, his voice grew complicated. “I don’t think I can protect you this time. You’d better leave Silverton as soon as possible.”
The message was unmistakable: this time, he wouldn’t step in for Evan. Being someone’s guarantor had been risky enough before. Now he was staring down Cain’s fury-and no one wanted to stand in the path of that kind of
storm.
