Chapter 146 Cortex Team
Sylvie and Estelle were perplexed. ‘They? Who’s they?’ they wondered.
Then a commotion broke out in Nine Courts. A helicopter descended and landed slowly. Estelle and
Sylvie were left speechless. Every resident in the area was stunned.
“Hazel, Roxanne! Look, what’s that?” Over in Villa No. 9, Anya called out.
Hazel recognized the helicopter. “The queen of finance’s Cortex Team. They’re in charge of risk
assessment.”
Anya and Roxanne inhaled sharply. Ivana was the woman Hazel wanted to be. Through her, they’d heard of Cortex Team too-and they knew how terrifying the group was.
About a dozen men stepped out of the elevator. All in black suits and black ties, faces unreadable. Somehow, they radiated an intense pressure, as if their eyes could see right through people.
Even from a distance, the heiresses felt unsettled. Every member of the team was like a living computer. But they were supposed to be in Imperia, so why were they in Silverton?
The Cortex Team bowed to Evan. “Cortex, at your service, Mr. Norwood. Your wish is our command!”
The leader reported, “We’ve confirmed that the syndicate is the same team that framed you three years ago. They’ve escaped Silverton and are trying to make it overseas, but we’ve locked onto them, and we’ll get every single member arrested soon.”
Estelle was stunned. ‘It seems the Cortex Team has planned everything.’
Of course, that was thanks to Evan’s orders. He had the Cortex Team keep an eye on Darius’ syndicate. Cortex was the one who got the evidence of the overseas auction.
Estelle couldn’t believe their efficiency. If it were her father, he’d have to mobilize a lot of people and spend a fortune, and it would still take months.
Ivana smiled. “No one’s touching you while I breathe, Evan.”
“Yeah! No one’s touching you when I’m around!”
“My family won’t let anyone hurt you either! You know where we stood when you came last time!”
Estelle and Sylvie grabbed Evan’s arms as they declared their support. They might fight over Evan’s attention, but when it came to his enemies, they were on the same side. No one was touching him.
Even without them, Evan didn’t fear Cain. He wasn’t the helpless prey he used to be. “I’ll handle this. You ladies stay out of it.” He didn’t want Estelle or Sylvie getting involved. They might hinder more than help. Evan had to heal Dragon’s Breath’s and Sky Titan’s members, so he left a moment later. Of course, he ran

into the heiresses when he went by Villa No. 9. His face fell, and he cursed under his breath before he left.
The ladies saw him too.
“Did you see that, Hazel? Evan came!”
Hazel took a deep breath and nodded. “I bet he came to apologize, but he’s too proud to say it.”
The way he acted like he hated them got on the heiresses’ nerves. “Fine. We’re not in a hurry. When Cain’s men come for him, he’ll be shaking in his shoes.”
