Chapter 159 Hugo’s Unexpected Apology
The entire Golden family sucked in a sharp breath. The air went rigid with tension. Even Graham hissed unconsciously, legs wobbling as fear made them weak.
Every one of Hugo’s subordinates? Just how many men would that be?
Terror swept through the room. A few people couldn’t take it and fainted on the spot.
Anya clenched her jaw. Her face was deathly pale. Her whole body trembled, her mind turning blank.
Hazel and Roxanne, at least, stayed clear-headed. They wanted to call for help but who could they call?
Anya did not even think of calling for backup.

That was because this was an unusual period. The entire Silverton was in a state of chaos due to the theft of Cain’s drakeblood gemstone. Peace was nowhere to be seen.
Everyone was on the edge of their seats, barely even able to protect their own people.
Who would have the time and energy to help others?
Just then, Hazel, Roxanne, and Anya recalled what Evan said. With teeth chattering, Anya muttered, “Evan… didn’t you say you repaid the debt? Then, why is Mr. Wells still coming after the Golden family?”
Her eyes reddened. “If I die beca

you, Evan, I’ll haunt you for the rest of your life!”
Just as she cursed under her breath, a commotion erupted at the entrance.
Hugo had arrived. Outside, the scene was overwhelming. Cars poured into the drivy in an endless stream.
A dense mass of men advanced toward the Golden Residence, step by step, pressure rolling off them like a wave.
“My… goodness,” someone whispered shakily. “They really are all here… What did we even do?”
Everyone’s hearts slammed against their ribs.
Anya turned even paler. Deep dow
she felt it-this was the end.
Flanked by his men, Hugo strode up. His gaze swept the room before landing on Graham.
His gaze swept across the crowd before he eventually spotted Graham.
“Is everyone in the Golden family here?”
With his head hung low, Graham nodded. “Everyone’s here, Mr. Wells. We are yours to do as you wish…”
They no longer struggled against their fate.
In his mind, there was only one outcome. Death.
“Alright.”
Hugo nodded in satisfaction before turning to talk to the men behind him. “Everyone, bow!”
Thousands of men lowered into bows in an instant.
The ground seemed to shake and tremble.
“Mr. Golden, we are here to apologize. We are sorry!”
It was Hugo who led the chant

The roar that followed thundered through the air like a crashing tide.
Everyone in the Golden family, including Graham and Anya, was completely baffled.
Anya looked like she’d seen a ghost.
“Dad, my eyes aren’t deceiving me, right?
“Mr. Wells is apologizing to us!”
Hazel and Roxanne nearly fainted from shock. What in the world was going on?
The tension was broken by a sharp hiss.
Graham slapped himself so hard across the face that he had to take a sharp inhale from the pain.
This was really happening!
Hugo had brought an army of subordinates to the Golden Residence. It was not to give the family trouble, but so they could apologize to them.
Slowly, the Golden family snapped out of their daze. They were flabbergasted.
But why?
Why was Hugo apologizing?
As if hearing the question in Graham’s heart, Hugo spoke again. “Mr. Golden, I slapped you three times three years ago, did I not? I humiliated you in front of everyone back then. Today, I’m giving you the chance to hit me back. Go on.”
Hugo shuffled forward and lifted his chin, offering his face.
It terrified Graham. He didn’t dare. Not even in his dreams.
“N-No,” Graham stammered. “Mr. Wells, please get up. I’m grateful you’re not here to trouble my family. I… I would never dare slap you.”
