Chapter 169 Cornered by Power
They realized instantly that they were done for Nothing and no one could save them now. They had been moments away from boarding an international flight, only to be captured in one fell swoop.
The thought of their involvement in forging evidence three years ago, evidence that had framed Evan, sent every one of them into panic mode. Not only were they headed for miserable end, but they might also become the witnesses to expose Darius’ long list of crimes.
“What… What do you want?”
They panted heavily, their jaws trembling as they stared at Evan.

Evan smiled at them. “It’s simple. Each of you will write a confession. You’ll spill all the beans. You’ll write down who was puppeting your strings and how everything happened.
“Do that, and you might at least walk away with your lives.”
His words made all of them flinch violently. The color drained from their faces, turning them ghostly white.
They exchanged a glance before one of them said, “We’ll confess to the crimes, but we don’t have a mastermind behind us. We acted entirely on our own. It had nothing to do with anyone else.”
“That’s right. We just couldn’t stand your petty theft!”
The entire group insisted in unison that everything had been their decision alone.
That way, they would still survive if they ended up in prison. However, they’d definitely be minced meat if they name-dropped Darius. They could drop dead at any moment, even behind bars.
They were nothing more than expendable sacrifices to power. They were pawns with a timer over their heads.
“So, you won’t cooperate, huh?” Evan asked flatly.
“Cooperate? Aren’t we already cooperating by admitting our guilt? What else do you want?” they said, doubling down.
‘Bam!’
A Cortex Team member moved forward, ready to begin a round of interrogation-interrogation they were more than qualified to conduct. Alas, Evan lifted a hand to stop them. “This part isn’t your job.”
He clapped his hands lightly. “Sirs, please come in.”
‘Bang.’
A group of people walked in. They were dressed unassumingly. Yet, they radiated authority with every step, and the one leading them was none other than Sean.
Sean gestured at Evan and introduced, “This is the legendary doctor I mentioned. He uncovered a full operation specializing in fabricating evidence. I called you here to take over custody.”
When the group of criminais saw who had entered, they froze in shock, for every person in the room was one of Silverton’s high -ranking officials.
“The Director of Security! The Director of Corrections! The Commander of the City Guard…” One prestigious title after another spilled from their mouths.
‘Boom!’
They felt as though they had been struck by lightning. Their minds went blank. Any one of these officials would have been enough to terrify them. But all of them together?
Several even burst into terrified sobs

Earlier, Evan had already contacted Sean to inform him that they had captured a specialized evidence-forging ring and would be handing them over to him. According to the files, the operation involved assets worth hundreds of billions and was tied to over a hundred deaths.
Evan smiled. “It’s okay that you guys don’t want to cooperate. I’ll just hand you over to them. However, I’m afraid they’re not as
nice as I am.”
Every one of these officials had decades of investigative experience and had cracked major cases. They didn’t need to say a word. All they had to do was just stand there to break the criminals’ composure.
Someone finally snapped. “I can’t take it anymore! I’ll talk!”
Panic swept through them. Now that they were faced with so many high-ranking officials, they suddenly preferred the Cortex
Team’s interrogation.
Evan glanced at the others. “And the rest of you?”
One person’s confession wasn’t enough. He wanted them all.
“We’ll talk! We’ll all talk! Please… have mercy…”
